  • How to Influence through the Net: Getting Your Hemp Brand Attention on Social Media

How to Influence through the Net: Getting Your Hemp Brand Attention on Social Media

    By Cait Curley

How can a consumer products company specializing in CBD and other industrial hemp-derived products market its brand in a cloudy regulatory and advertising environment – despite the fact that hemp is now legal under the 2018 Farm Bill?

One way has been to get others to talk about your brand in publications, blogs and social media. When Facebook and Google won’t let hemp and CBD brands advertise, many companies are turning to public relations and influencer marketing. It’s a new twist on word of mouth in a digital age, yet it still works.

A huge piece of the cannabis movement’s story has been built on social media. It gives the community, like any other industry, a sense of connection and like mindedness. It’s a platform to learn, create connections and promote your brand. I don’t know a “top brand” that doesn’t have social media. It doesn’t mean it’s an A+ social media platform, but at least they have one.

Here are some basic but essential tips for hemp/cannabis companies to keep in mind when pursuing social media and influencer marketing and communications strategies:

First Things First:  Even if it’s a simple landing page, make sure you have a website with contact info and your social media links included. Include an email signup form so visitors can sign up for newsletters. Creating and populating a blog page on your website is also recommended, as it provides original content for you to share and potentially boost across social media platforms.

What Social Media Should I Be On?:  A brand should create an account on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Snapchat and LinkedIn, to start. When creating a handle, use your company’s name, and if it’s not available, make it as close as possible.

Don’t Skip:  You may spend more time on one over the other, but it’s a mistake to skip a social media platform based on where you “think” your audience is. Especially in the cannabis/hemp industry. Focus on quality content over quantity.

Stay Active and Engaged:  You don’t need to be a social media expert or even tech savvy, but you do need to go in at least once a week for an hour to post and engage with the community. I say once a week, because I understand that many companies, especially startups, have one person wearing many, if not all hats within the business. Many brand owners (farmers, for example) may be new to social media with no idea how to manage/post/engage on their feed. With that, you can find at least an hour a week to learn the platforms, post and engage. My ultimate recommendation would be at least an hour a day. It’s not as difficult as you may think. Once you begin doing it, you’ll find a flow and recognize the importance to carve out time to engage with your followers.

Organize Your Social Media Profile:  Synchronize all of the profile and cover photos. Make sure at least one email contact is available. Be short and simple with your mission, what your product is, and where to buy it.

Take Advantage of Hashtags:  Include your company’s hashtag in every post possible. Using tags related to your product like #fullspectrumhemp or #hempfarmers for a hemp oil brand (for example) is very helpful, too.

Check Out What Others Are Doing, But Be YOU:  Research the competition, find inspiration and be genuine. Tell YOUR story, be you/unique, not your competition.

Relationships Count:  Build relationships vs. asking for a sale. That’s what builds loyalty and trust over time.

Know Your Audience:  What do they want to learn? Keep track of what posts have been most successful, e.g., the most likes, comments or shares.

A Picture Is Worth 1,000 Words:  Make use of captivating visuals, including original photography, licensed photography, and photos and graphics used with permission. If possible, high quality video about your brand, mission, activities, events or lifestyles and related interests, short and sweet, are sure to generate attention and shares.

Educate But Avoid Health Claims:  Educate on a simple level to the public while avoiding health claims about products. To learn more about what you can and can’t say under the Dietary Supplements Health and Education Act, visit here.

E-Newsletters and Blogs:  Make sure you have an email signup form on your website to collect emails of customers and constituents. Before you know it, you’ll have a growing email contact list to whom you can send e-newsletters and other email announcements and promotions. Blogs provide original content that can be shared as articles in your newsletters and as social media posts, which can help bring readers back to your website.

Build Brand Awareness:  Social media is growing so rapidly. Having multiple influencers out there (even if micro with 1K followers), allows your brand to have multiple tentacles, reminding or introducing people to your brand.

Influencer Advantages:  Even after the legalization of hemp, so many cannabis/hemp companies still are not able to advertise on social media. Tree Free Hemp for example, a hemp paper and printing company, has been flagged for years because it attempted to boost a hemp paper poster – it turns out that poster was the Declaration of Independence; oh the irony! For this reason, influencers and other creative forms of marketing are needed for hemp/cannabis than for any other industry. Consumers trust information and product recommendations from influencers. They feel it’s an honest opinion from someone that knows what they’re talking about. They’re a trusted voice.

Influencers help increase SEO by building and creating unique content. They drive traffic, convert leads and open brands to new markets and networks. Most influencers, if treated and paid correctly, will be loyal to your company for life. They will continue to promote and recommend your brand.

  • Heavy Metal Meets Hemp: A Journey to Birmingham

Heavy Metal Meets Hemp: A Journey to Birmingham

    By Morris Beegle

This story begins in the summer of 1971, in the attic of my grandmother’s farmhouse in Beaver, Oklahoma. I’m sure most folks are unfamiliar with this town, as today the population is still less than 2,000 people. It has one claim to fame, however: Beaver is home to the annual World Cow Chip Throwing Contest. Yes, this is a real thing, picking up hardened circular chunks of cow shit and flinging them like frisbees.

While I never competed in the event, this tiny town holds a special place in my heart, and it’s not because of my family heritage or this oddly unique annual tradition. This peculiar place grabbed me at the age of four as I was sitting in the farmhouse attic with my older brothers Dave and Brad listening to my very first Black Sabbath experience.

I can still remember War Pigs, Iron Man, Electric Funeral and Hand of Doom all off the Paranoid album like it was yesterday. This was my introduction to the greatest hard rock band in history, a rowdy group from Birmingham, England, that would change music history and play an important role in my life as I got older.

So, what does Black Sabbath have to do with hemp?

Inspiration, energy, and motivation to get LOUD about what I believe in. Since I’m discussing the mighty Sabbath, I’ll also throw in Judas Priest, another legendary Birmingham band. Both bands provided me with influence and imagination to pursue my entrepreneurial ambitions, first in the music and entertainment industries, followed by the hemp and cannabis industries.

This influence led me to printing hemp t-shirts, hemp hats, and hemp posters. Then to producing hemp events, hemp conferences, and hemp festivals. And most recently, to creating a line of hemp-bodied guitars, hemp-board guitar cabinets, hemp guitar straps, hemp plastic picks, and hemp plastic volume knobs that go to 11…because when you need that little extra push over the cliff, and 10 just isn’t cutting it, you need to take it to 11, and be #OneLouder!

This has been the Birmingham influence on my life, with a little extra help from the lads in Spinal Tap.

Hemp awareness, CBD, and medical and recreational cannabis are literally blowing the F up all around the globe. It certainly is here in the United States where we finally passed historic legislation that unequivocally clarifies hemp and all parts of the plant, including cannabinoids, extracts, and derivatives, as no longer included in our Controlled Substances Act, and removes jurisdiction from the Drug Enforcement Administration.

We Americans are pretty excited about this even though we still have a big battle with the FDA (Food and Drug Administration) on how this will play out in the world of food and supplements. This issue isn’t unique to the USA, as the UK and Europe and most parts of the world are struggling to figure out a path where we can free this plant in all of its forms, for not only consumption, but commercial industrial processes and regenerative agricultural practices.

This is where I have placed my efforts and intentions as I continue on my journey, one in which I get to visit a place that unexpectedly inspired me to promote a plant and a planet that both need to come together for the future of society and the future of humanity.

Season Two of Let’s Talk Hemp is here with hemp explicitly OFF the controlled substances list!

This is a monumental development for the hemp industry.

In this episode, we discuss with lawyer Frank Robison the implications of the 2018 Agricultural Act that officially legalized hemp.

We talk about the government’s current position on hemp trade as well as the continuing difficulties involved in interstate transport of hemp and derivatives.

We also discuss the legal implications of the recent seizures of hemp shipments in Idaho and Oklahoma and what this means for the hemp industry on the whole.

Let's Talk Hemp on Apple Podcsts

“The 2018 farm bill was intended without a doubt to make it much easier for the industry to produce, cultivate, distribute hemp and in in-state and in interstate commerce. It distinguishes industrial hemp from marijuana. Hemp is not marijuana!” – Frank Robison

    Show Notes:

    • How the 2018 Agricultural Act has changed the hemp industry
    • Are all cannabinoids now legal?
    • The FDA’s position on cannabis extracts in food
    • On the recent seizures of hemp shipments in Idaho and Oklahoma
    • The legal implications of these seizures
    • The controlled substance status of hemp-derived THC

“No matter how you look at the seizure (of a hemp shipment) in Oklahoma, it should not be a criminal matter, looking at it through the lense of the 2018 farm bill, the 2014 farm bill and most poignantly, Oklahoma law.” – Frank Robison

Special Thanks to the following Associations that helped Push the Farm Bill over the Finish Line:

“It’s very important for the industry to know that if you ship hemp, particularly in it’s raw form or if it’s milled, you are exposing yourself to risk until there is settled case law on this or the USDA promulgates its regulations.” – Frank Robison

  • Colorado Governor and Hemp Industry Advocate Jared Polis to Be Featured Speaker at 6th Annual NoCo Hemp Expo in Denver

Colorado Governor and Hemp Industry Advocate Jared Polis to Be Featured Speaker at 6th Annual NoCo Hemp Expo in Denver

NoCo6 producer expects 8,000 – 10,000 visitors will attend the largest gathering of hemp industry professionals ever under one roof at the Crowne Plaza DIA Convention Center in Denver, March 28-30, 2019.

DENVER (February 20, 2019) – Colorado’s newly elected Governor Jared Polis, who in his first State of the State speech in January 2019 announced his plan to “make good on the promise of industrial hemp,” will be a featured speaker at NoCo Hemp Expo, as the sixth annual gathering of hemp industry leaders makes its Denver debut with more exhibition space, educational programming, networking and after-event opportunities than ever before, March 28-30, 2019, at the Crowne Plaza DIA Convention Center.

Polis, an entrepreneur, educational leader, former U.S. Congressman and Colorado native, is a longtime supporter of the hemp and cannabis industries. He advocated for expungement of non-violent cannabis-related criminal records, expansion of Colorado’s medical marijuana program and non-cooperation with enforcement of federal prohibition during his campaign. Polis even had the programs for his inauguration on January 8 printed on hemp paper.

“Hemp is an amazingly versatile crop, and I’m proud to see Colorado’s rural communities leading the way to unleash its untapped economic potential,” he said during the campaign. “As Governor, I’ll support our farmers and innovators who want to develop industrial hemp—and I’ll tell the federal government to stay out of their way.”

“We are honored to have Governor Polis, a friend, a believer, and a leading ally of the hemp industry, speak at NoCo6,” said Morris Beegle, co-founder of Colorado Hemp Company, which produces NoCo Hemp Expo. “Jared has supported this industry for a long time, not only with words, but with his actions as a Congressional representative for

Colorado. We are excited to hear what he has to say about the future of hemp and the opportunities that exist not only for Coloradoan’s, but for people across the country and around the globe.”

Governor Polis joins a vibrant speaker lineup at NoCo6, including hemp advocate David Bronner, Cosmic Engagement Officer (CEO) for top-selling Dr. Bronner’s natural soaps, and Michelle Barry, co-founder and CEO of VITA Technologies, which delivers customized innovation research, product development and brand launch tactics through quantum water biophysics and quantum biology.

  • Asian Hemp Summit: It’s all about Perspective

Asian Hemp Summit: It’s all about Perspective

    by Rick Trojan

Today I’m sitting at the base of Machapuchare (aka Fish Tail Mountain) in the Himalayas, one of the three sacred mountains in the Hindu religion, and the apparent residence of Shiva. To us Westerners and “round eyes,” it’s the Mount Olympus of the Hindi. I spent the last few days hiking the mountains after the Asian Hemp Summit, which Morris Beegle and I attended, spoke at, and ROCKED!  We brought the magic of karaoke to Nepal, and Morris sang his first karaoke ever – Black Sabbath’s War Pigs – and I rocked some Jack Black & Vanilla Ice… ice baby!

The conference was not only enlightening and educational, but provided opportunity for networking with leaders of 25+ countries.  As I listened and learned, I had one main takeaway – It’s all about perspective!  That’s exactly what Let’s Talk Hemp and the 422 podcast brings, a variety of perspectives.

Machapuchare, one of the three holy mountains for the Hindu religion, stands tall at 6,993 meters (22,943 feet) and its left sided neighbor, Annapurna South, stands 7,219 m (23,684 ft), over 600 feet higher. Sitting here I can plainly see that Annapurna South is higher than Fish Tail. However, during my hike down from and around Fish Tail, it clearly looked like the taller mountain. The reality is, the mountain altitude didn’t change, but my viewpoint did; making the smaller mountain seem higher.

The same holds true for our industry.  With all the recent changes, the 2018 Agricultural Act and FDA interference, it’s easy to lose perspective on the industry and market. As an American, I’m raised to believe that my country is the leader of the world, which includes cannabis. However, after attending the event with Morris in Kathmandu, I realized that my perspective is skewed. In fact, China holds more than 50% of the patents on cannabis, India has been growing and using this plant for eons, and Japan is realizing the economic benefit of its fiber, food and dietary supplement.

America, I realized, has a lot to learn from other countries regarding cannabis. We are not the tallest mountain. But we are the largest market.

It’s with these new glasses that we return to USA and launch Let’s Talk Hemp Season 2 – Changing the Cannabis Conversation. It’s time to embrace the knowledge that Morris and I have gathered during our international speaking engagements – be it Colombia (March 2018), Balkannabis in Athens (June 2018), the European Industrial Hemp Association conference (Cologne, Germany 2018), Japanese exploration (November 2018) and the Asian Hemp Summit (Nepal, Feb 2019).

Meeting folks from India, China, Japan, Nepal, Poland, the Netherlands, Tasmania and 18 other countries helps provide unique perspective. This is the perspective that we’re bringing to Season 2 of the podcast, launching Feb 22, 2019.

Rick Trojan is Founder of the Hemp Road Trip, VP of the Hemp Industries Association, Director of Vote Hemp, Director of the Industrial Hemp Research Foundation, and with Morris Beegle is co-host of the Let’s Talk Hemp Podcast.

    Despite Hemp’s Legality, Confusion Abounds

    by Portland Press Herald

Industrial hemp may now be legal to grow and sell in the United States under the 2018 Farm Bill, but there is still a lot of uncertainty out there. Despite hemp’s newly earned legal status, authorities in Oklahoma just last week seized a truckload of hemp, valued at $500,000, headed for a Colorado processing facility. After 11 separate tests confirming that the cargo is indeed hemp and not marijuana, two individuals still remain in jail and officials are now demanding the entire contents of the truck – over 17,000 pounds – be tested for THC content, reported Ganjapreneur on February 5.

The incident, along with another in which an Oregon trucker was arrested in Idaho in late January for transporting hemp to Colorado, is becoming a test case for interstate commerce of industrial hemp. According to the Idaho Press, the federal Farm Bill forbids states from preventing the transportation of hemp, and the Colorado company that wants its seized shipment back from Idaho is citing the Farm Bill in a court filing against the state.

In related news, health officials in the state of Maine on February 1 ordered that all edible products containing cannabidiol, or CBD, must be removed from stores, saying that the hemp-derived ingredient is not a federally approved food additive. Health inspectors began in late January informing businesses that they must remove all foods, tinctures and capsules from their shelves that contain CBD. The Maine Department of Health and Human Services has determined CBD is an unapproved food additive that federal authorities do not recognize as safe. The ruling threatens to derail Maine’s fast-growing hemp industry at a time when the CBD market is poised for explosive growth, reports the Portland Press Herald.

CBD Products Making Inroads in Mainstream Retail

    By Hemp Industry Daily

CBD products have built a significant presence in natural products retail stores and also in tobacco stores and head shops – and even in yoga studios, pet shops, gyms and coffee shops – but they have a ways to go to establish a presence in mainstream grocery, drug and convenience stores, according to new research compiled by Hemp Industry Daily. How long will it take for mainstream retailers to carry CBD ultimately depends on the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) providing assurances that CBD foods, drugs, supplements, cosmetics and other products are approved. That said, some mainstream retailers, including high end department store chain Nieman Marcus, aren’t waiting.

Kentucky Agriculture Commissioner to Facebook: “Stop Hassling Hemp Businesses”

    By Vox, Jan. 7, 2019

Facebook and Google account for 57 percent of the U.S. digital advertising market, according to eMarketer, yet sellers of CBD and related hemp products often find themselves banned from promoting their businesses on these two dominant online advertising platforms. Moreover, some CBD and hemp extract companies are seeing their Facebook pages shut down entirely, as Facebook has been categorizing CBD and hemp businesses as “prescription pharmaceuticals, reports Vox.

Now, the online social media giant is facing blowback for its restrictive policy when it comes to CBD and hemp businesses. In an email this week, according to Vox, Facebook admitted that its team had erroneously removed CBD and hemp pages. “We mistakenly removed Pages for hemp and CBD oil that do not violate our policies and we are currently working to restore these Pages,” a Facebook spokesperson was quoted as saying.

According to Facebook’s Pages-Specific Policies, company pages “must not promote the sale of prescription pharmaceuticals.” Pharmaceuticals are allowed to have Facebook pages, but must first obtain permission from the social media company. Facebook said it did not believe hemp or CBD companies violated any of these terms, but it did not further explain why its team had removed a number of CBD business pages.

In related news, Kentucky Commissioner of Agriculture Ryan Quarles wrote a letter to Facebook founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg on behalf of his state’s CBD businesses whose pages were taken down. “America’s hemp farmers and businesses should be celebrated and supported – not hassled – by Facebook and other social media companies,” Quarles wrote in a letter to Zuckerberg dated January 4. “Because hemp products are legal, it is baffling to me that Facebook would attempt to interfere with hemp business owners’ efforts to advertise and communicate with the public about their products,” Quarles wrote.

Exploring Hemp’s New Horizons With Morris Beegle

Hemp is where it’s at right now, especially in Colorado. Legal cannabis is cool and all — and we welcome Michigan and Vermont to the recreational party in 2019 — but that’s so 2015 in this state.

More about substance than style, industrial hemp’s many uses were finally recognized by the federal government in December, when President Donald Trump officially legalized it by signing the 2018 Farm Bill. Now that the plant is out from under the shadow of the Controlled Substances Act, it’s regulated by the Department of Agriculture and legal to farm in all fifty states.

But that doesn’t mean that growing hemp is just like growing tomatoes. The USDA’s regulations for farming hemp will be much more strict than they are for other crops, while the Food and Drug Administration will oversee how cannabidiol (CBD) from hemp is added to food and other products intended for human consumption. Colorado doesn’t necessarily have to follow those rules, however, since it legalized adult-use cannabis cultivation in 2012 and subsequently implemented laws allowing the sale of hemp- and CBD-infused foods within the state.

To predict what legalized hemp will mean in the new year, we checked in with Morris Beegle, former music promoter, founder of the NoCo Hemp Expo and an expert on the past, present and future of the hemp industry.

  • SHE’s writing hemp history in Nashville

SHE’s writing hemp history in Nashville

    by John Dvorak

The Southern Hemp Expo (SHE), held at the Nashville Fairgrounds in September 2018, was organized by Cecily Friday of the Tennessee Cannabis Coalition, Colleen Keahey Lanier, Executive Director of the Hemp Industries Association and hemptrepreneur extraordinaire Morris Beegle.  This trio of thought leaders worked tirelessly to replicate Beegle’s highly successful NOCO Hemp Expo in Tennessee.  They did an excellent job taking care of the speakers and attendees alike.  There was a lot of local media coverage of the Expo as people are realizing the regenerative effect that hemp can have for farmers and the economy.

For me, one of the many highlights was Eli Shalom’s hemp paper making lecture and demonstration.  Eli, who has been producing beautiful craft hemp paper for years, described how hemp fiber and water are added to an oval shaped beater where they go round and round as the fibers are pulled apart, churned and made more pliable.  The beater’s purpose is to macerate the hemp fibers, creating more surface area for them to link together during the papermaking process. The pulpy slurry is spread onto a framed screen where the individual fibers form bonds as the water drains.  Pressure is added to squeeze out excess water resulting in very strong and flexible sheets of hemp paper.

After Eli’s talk, I realized that the SHE was a beater in its own right: thousands of individuals pouring onto the circular trade show floor where 100 vendors stood ready to break open any misconceptions about cannabis hemp.  As people jostled with each other to make their way around, waves of hempformation flowed over them in a frenetic manner. Once this human slurry was mixed, the proto-hempsters poured into the lecture halls where they synergistically coalesced into something that is stronger than each individual.  The speakers acted as pressure that squeezed out misinformation and helped turn concepts into coherent action plans. I was honored to contribute to this effort by giving my Cannabis Curriculum presentation.  People left the Expo unified, strengthened and ready to write their own chapter of hempen history.  Now, I’ll try to turn the page on this tearable hemp paper analogy and get my sheet together.

Similar to what I experienced in Oklahoma recently, Cannabidiol (CBD) has taken the South by storm.  A large majority of vendors at the Expo were promoting this non-intoxicating cannabinoid and with good reason.  Stories abounded of CBD’s healing properties: controlling seizures, relieving pain and anxiety as well as being an anti-inflammatory and neuroprotectant.  A particularly poignant presentation was given by Janel Ralph of Palmetto Harmony who spoke passionately about how CBD has significantly improved the quality of life for her daughter, Harmony.

There were several more traditional hemp merchants there too including Sunstrand, which focuses on the many uses of the hemp stalk, from hurd based particle board to bast fiber insulation.  The humble hemp seed was not forgotten either, as Laura’s Hemp Chocolates and Victory Hemp both had tasty products on display.  Rick Trojan, who MC’d several speaker panels in an easy going and professional manner, was showing off his newly wrapped Hemp Road Trip bus in the SHE parking lot.  Keep an eye out for a tour date near you!

Numerous hemp luminaries were in attendance including Vote Hemp lobbyist Ben Droz, a study in perpetual motion and genuinely kind fellow.  Hemp pioneers Joe Hickey, Craig Lee and John Roulac were there to provide an experienced voice of reason and reality check.  It was encouraging to see a new generation of whole plant cannabis advocates, like Cait Curley, taking up the hempen mantle in an energetic and innovative manner.  I enjoyed finally meeting fellow hempologist, Daniel Isenstein, whose Hemp Highway of Kentucky website really drives home the canna-history of the Bluegrass State.

Ryan Loflin of Rocky Mountain Hemp shared his invaluable lessons learned growing hemp in Colorado while author, goat herder and uber-hempster Doug Fine lent good humor and poignant insights to the proceedings.  Veteran Mike Lewis, founder of the Growing Warriors Project, talked about the challenges and opportunities awaiting members of our armed services.

The ever cheerful Coach Freddie Cecchini was there documenting the event for his ihemp Revolution podcast.  He played his trademark washboard to complement the musical entertainment at the after party which also saw hempentainer and musical muse Aviva Vuvuzela perform her classic song Cannabis Car.  All in all, the Southern Hemp Expo was a resounding success and participants are already looking forward to writing more hemp history at next year’s event.

Leading Hemp Expo Producer Colorado Hemp Company Celebrates Historic Farm Bill Legalizing Industrial Hemp in the U.S.

World’s largest hemp expo producer poised to meet opportunities and challenges of legal hemp with industry-leading events including the upcoming town-hall style Winter Hemp Summit on January 11; the hemp industry’s flagship event, the 6th Annual NoCo Hemp Expo in Denver, March 29-30; and the second annual Southern Hemp Expo in Nashville, TN, and the 3rd Annual Hawaii Hemp Conference in Fall 2019.

Fort Collins, CO (December 21, 2018) – Following the successful second annual Hawaii Hemp Conference in Honolulu and President Trump’s signing of the 2018 Farm Bill into law—with watershed provisions to legalize industrial hemp—Colorado Hemp Company, the world’s largest hemp expo and conference producer, is ramping up to meet the unprecedented momentum surrounding the emerging industry in 2019.

“On a scale of 1 to 10, we’ve been operating at 11 for the past year,” said Colorado Hemp Company co-founder Morris Beegle. “Now we’re moving into overdrive, and we’re ready to take it ‘#OneLouder.’ It’s such an exciting time to be spreading the word about hemp,” he says.

“With the signing of the Farm Bill, a very long battle was won,” Beegle continues. “Hemp and all parts, including cannabinoids, extracts, and derivatives of the plant, have been removed from the Controlled Substances Act. All parts of the plant. After the Farm Bill passing both houses of congress and being signed today by President Trump, #Hemp is now explicitly legal and hemp prohibition is over. It’s great news for the cannabis plant (yes, hemp is cannabis and all cannabis should experience freedom), and for everyone who has fought for its freedom over the years, decades, centuries and millennia.”

As the hemp industry prepares for legalization, Colorado Hemp Company will host the Winter Hemp Summit on January 11, 2019, in Fort Collins, CO. The town hall-style one-day forum is sure to be lively as industry leaders take a look back over important events and issues of 2018, including the Farm Bill, and look forward to what’s to come in 2019.

The largest gathering of industry professionals ever under one roof will feature 70,000 square feet of exhibitions with more than 225 exhibitors, a business conference and agriculture & farm symposium, a global hemp village, science and technical workshops, a fashion parade and several networking events. For speaker and sponsor information, visit www.nocohempexpo.com.

“After five successful years in Fort Collins, we’re thrilled to bring this industry-leading event to a convenient location not only for Coloradoans but for people traveling from around the world to learn about and celebrate this plant,” Beegle said. “Our path of exponential growth reflects this industry’s extraordinary journey.”

On September 6 and 7, 2019, Southern Hemp Expo, a robust, program-rich trade show for the industrial, nutritional and therapeutic hemp industries, will return to Nashville, TN, to build on the success of this past year’s first-ever expo. The event will feature more than 100 vendors and exhibitors, more than 50 industry expert speakers, a business conference, farm symposium and plenty of networking opportunities.

The company also recently launched a weekly e-newsletter, Let’s Talk Hemp, covering news, entertainment and trends in the emerging hemp products market to accompany its Let’s Talk Hemp podcast featuring industry leaders Rick Trojan and Morris Beegle.

“To say we’re hitting the ground running in 2019 would be quite an understatement,” Beegle said. “It’s looking to be a groundbreaking year for this groundbreaking industry.”

Passage of the 2018 Farm Bill, which President Trump on December 20 signed into law, has been a watershed moment for the hemp industry. Mitch McConnell (R-Ky) stated it will “encourage new opportunities for struggling farmers and their families, new products for use in construction, health care, and manufacturing, and new jobs in a broad range of fields.”

Hemp Prohibition Ends in U.S.; President Signs Historic Farm Bill

President Donald Trump today signed the 2018 “Agriculture Improvement Act,” known to most Americans as the Farm Bill, removing industrial hemp from the controlled substances list. The historic legislation allows farmers and producers to grow and sell industrial hemp for the first time in over 80 years.

There was strong bipartisan support for the bill in Congress, which last week passed a sweeping $867 billion Farm Bill. President Trump was expected to sign the bill into law this week, spurred in part by pressure from farmers battered by an on-going trade war with China that has disproportionately affected U.S. producers of soy and other agricultural goods.

For hemp producers across the U.S., the Farm Bill is nothing but historic. “The Farm Bill…both legalizes hemp as an agricultural commodity and removes it from the controlled substances list. It gives states the opportunity to be the primary overseers of hemp production. It also allows hemp researchers to apply for competitive federal grants from the U.S. Department of Agriculture, and made hemp eligible for federal crop insurance. Together these features will encourage new opportunities for struggling farmers and their families, new products for use in construction, health care, and manufacturing, and new jobs in a broad range of fields,” said Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-KY), sponsor of the hemp provision.

The final five-year Farm Bill sets policies and reauthorizes farm, conservation, nutrition, rural development, agricultural trade and other programs. In an interview with Fox Business News earlier today, USDA Secretary Sonny Perdue welcomed the new hemp legalization. “This is an industrial-use product, medicinally as well as other products, and we look forward to developing markets for it if it’s a profitable crop. Agriculture needs new products,” he said.

Mitch McConnell Offers to Loan President Trump His Hemp Pen to Sign Historic Farm Bill Legalizing Industrial Hemp

In a speech on the Senate floor on December 12, Mitch McConnell (R-KY) celebrated the passage of the 2018 Farm Bill with provisions for legalizing industrial hemp in the United States – a historic move and a watershed moment for the emerging hemp industry.

“What exactly does this legislation do?” asked McConnell. “The Farm Bill we passed yesterday both legalizes hemp as an agricultural commodity and removes it from the controlled substances list. It gives states the opportunity to be the primary overseers of hemp production. It also allows hemp researchers to apply for competitive federal grants from the U.S. Department of Agriculture, and made hemp eligible for federal crop insurance. Together these features will encourage new opportunities for struggling farmers and their families, new products for use in construction, health care, and manufacturing, and new jobs in a broad range of fields,” said.

“I look forward to the House passing our Farm Bill soon and sending it to President Trump for his signature. I’d be happy to loan him my hemp pen for the occasion,” McConnell added.[/vc_column_text][divider line_type=”No Line” custom_height=”15″]
