  • NoCo Hemp Expo Returns for Fifth Year This April

NoCo Hemp Expo Returns for Fifth Year This April

While confusion continues to swirl around the 4/20 rally at Civic Center Park, plans for another cannabis festival held every April in Colorado are humming right along. The NoCo Hemp Expo will return to Loveland on April 6 and April 7, and its organizer expects it to be bigger than ever.

“We had some space issues and were packed to the gills last year, so we added another building,” explains NoCo Hemp founder Morris Beegle, who says the event’s programming has increased about 25 percent over last year. “It’s going to have more speakers and more exhibitors.”

Beegle estimates that anywhere from 5,500 to 6,000 people will attend this year’s expo at the Ranch Events Complex in Loveland, where they’ll dive into two days of nearly sixty featured speakers, 150 exhibitions and the expo’s first ever farmer symposium. There will also be an expanded programming for high-end investors and CEOs in the hemp industry, according to Beegle.

Keynote speakers include Nature’s Path founder Arran Stevens, Nutiva founder John Rulac and Winona La Duke, executive director of Native American activism group Honor the Earth. “Stevens doesn’t speak very often. To have him keynote the summit this year is a big pull for our industry,” Beegle says.

NoCo Hemp Expo founder Morris Beegle at the 2016 convention.
NoCo Hemp Expo founder Morris Beegle at the 2016 convention.

“This is is definitely going to have more of a farm and [agriculture] feel than it has in the past, as well as more regenerative farming,” he continues. “In the past, it was more general products-oriented. Not that we weren’t going for farmers, but adding the farm and ag symposium adds more of a farm feel.” And like past expos, this year’s will have plenty of food trucks, hemp-based treats and live entertainment.

The expo has seen a rise in popularity with the fast emergence of CBD as well as more states legalizing industrial hemp farming. That movement has sped up as confusion over legalized psychoactive cannabis and hemp cultivation is cleared up.

In 2015, the NoCo Hemp Expo was almost compromised when the Larimer County Sheriff’s Department claimed the expo couldn’t have hemp plants or germinating seeds on the premises without being shut down. The expo eventually went on as planned, though, and Beegle says that he and Larimer County Sheriff Justin Smith have ironed out those issues. “They were really nice last year,” Beegle says of Larimer County law enforcement. “We’ve educated them, and they’ve been supportive of everything. We’re just building on what we’ve done in the past, and it’s been working.

The NoCo Hemp Expo will be held on Friday, April 6, and Saturday, April 7, at the Ranch Events Complex, 5280 Arena Circle in Loveland. Tickets start at $15 for general admission on Saturday; VIP, business-to-business and other special packages are available. Learn more on the NoCo Hemp Expo website.

  • Hemp Leaders Speak Out

    Hemp Leaders Speak Out

Keynote Speakers Announced for Fifth Annual NoCo Hemp Expo & Hemp Summit, April 6-7, Loveland, CO

Organic Hemp Food Pioneers Arran Stephens, co-founder of Nature’s Path Foods, and John Roulac, founder of Nutiva, Join Native American Activist Turned Hemp Entrepreneur Winona LaDuke as Keynote Speakers at the 5th Annual NoCo Hemp Expo & Hemp Summit, April 6-7, Loveland, CO. Plus, Ray “The Soil Guy” Archuleta headlines NoCo’s new hemp Farm and Agriculture Symposium.

Loveland, CO (February 22, 2018) – As Cofounder of Nature’s Path Foods, one of the world’s largest family owned organic food brands, Arran Stephens has always pushed the envelope in food and agriculture – including hemp food and farming. The company has been
incorporating hemp seed as a superfood and plant-based source of protein and fiber in a growing number of its products, and Stephens has been actively investing in organic farmland to cultivate hemp and other crops his company sources to feed the growing demand for
    organic, plant based foods.
    Winona LaDuke

    Arran Stephens

    John Roulac

John Roulac, too, sees the growing opportunity in hemp foods and the industrial hemp market. As founder of Nutiva, his company was an early pioneer in popularizing the benefits of hemp foods in the natural products retail marketplace. Today, he continues to educate consumers about the benefits of hemp, among other superfoods the company offers. In addition, Roulac sees hemp as a potential regenerative crop in that it may help sequester carbon and reduce climate change – an issue close to his heart.

Winona LaDuke a renowned Native American tribal leader and activist on climate change, Indigenous and human rights, green and local economies and clean water, also sees the value of hemp in driving a new economy for rural and Native American communities.
Through her Kickstarter campaign, Winona is creating Winona’s Hemp & Heritage Farm, a working educational hemp farm to help train the next generation of Native American farmers.

These individuals lead an outstanding roster of speakers at the 5th Annual NoCo Hemp Expo & Hemp Summit (NoCo5), the world’s leading gathering of industrial hemp leaders, exhibitors, investors, and entrepreneurs, April 6-7, 2018, at the Ranch Events Complex in Loveland, CO.

In addition, Ray “The Soil Guy” Archuleta will headline on Saturday, April 7, a new Farm and Agriculture Symposium held in conjunction with the NoCo Hemp Expo. Geared toward farmers and producers, the symposium will cover plant genetics, farm equipment, growing techniques, processing, licensing, etc. Archuleta, a partner in Soil Health Consultants and former Agronomist with the Natural Resources Conservation Service, teaches soil health and agro-ecology. Together with other pioneers in regenerative agriculture, Ray is leading a renaissance in building healthy living soils that feed and protect plants without the need for chemicals and that sequester carbon.

NoCo5: The World’s Largest Industrial Hemp Conference and Expo

Presenting Sponsor PureHemp Technology Announced for Fifth Annual NoCo Hemp Expo

Loveland, CO (January 30, 2018) – The Fifth Annual NoCo Hemp Expo (NoCo5) announces Fort Lupton, CO-based PureHemp Technology as this year’s Presenting Sponsor for the two-day gathering of industrial hemp thought leaders, speakers, entrepreneurs, and exhibitors taking place April 6-7, 2018, at the Ranch Events Complex in Loveland, CO.

Featuring an expanded Hemp Summit, new Farm and Agricultural Symposium, a Global Hemp Village and two interactive exhibition halls, this year’s NoCo5 is set to be the largest on record. Recognized by the Hemp Industries Association as the “Hemp event of the year,” sponsors for this year’s event span across market leaders in production, manufacturing, and distributing of industrial hemp related products.

Nearly three-dozen states have passed legislation in recent years allowing research or commercial production of industrial hemp, the non-psychoactive cousin to marijuana. From hemp extract products now being sold online and in a growing number of natural products stores to food, fiber, cosmetics, textiles, paper, animal feed and construction materials and more, industrial hemp sales totaled $688 million in 2016, led by hemp food, body care and hemp extract rich in cannabinoid compounds, or “CBD” products.

PureHemp TechnoloyPureHemp Technology is this year’s NoCo5 presenting and leading sponsor that has been an innovator in the production, branding and marketing of industrial hemp products. PureHemp’s sister company, Pure Kind Botanicals, produces and markets a growing line of premium, full spectrum, cannabinoid-infused products for the wellness industry.

“We at PureHemp are proud and honored to represent the entire hemp community at the Fifth Annual NoCo Hemp Expo,” says Ed Lehrburger, Founder and Executive Manager of PureHemp Technology and Pure Kind Botanicals. “All of us in the greater domestic hemp community can honestly say we are successfully growing the U.S. hemp industry.”

PureHemp Technology has been advancing a patented hemp refinery technology that rapidly converts hemp stalks into pulp, lignin, and sugars that can be used to manufacture thousands of unique hemp-based products. Based on years of R&D and favorable results, PureHemp has a rich history partnering with other companies and advancing unique hemp initiatives.

For example, PureHemp was approached last year by a Canadian company looking for a technology company capable of producing sugars from hemp stalks that can be fermented into a high-quality beer. In 2017, PureHemp successfully completed a Phase I proof-of-concept program and is currently engaged in a Phase II program to refine specific recipes for producing a high quality, 100% hemp beer product. Hemp and beer enthusiasts, stay tuned!

Hemp Farm & Agriculture Symposium Debuts at 5th Annual NoCo Hemp Expo, Largest Trade Gathering of the Emerging Industrial Hemp Industry

The NoCo Hemp Expo Farm & Agriculture Symposium takes place on Saturday, April 7, 2018, as part of the 5th Annual NoCo Hemp Expo, April 6 – 7, 2018, at the Ranch Events Complex in Loveland, CO.

Loveland, CO (January 18, 2017) – As more states allow commercial hemp farming, farmers, growers, researchers and agriculture specialists will convene at the inaugural NoCo Hemp Farm & Agriculture Symposium on Saturday, April 7, 2018, in Loveland, CO, to learn about crop methodologies, regenerative farming best practices and market opportunities for the industrial hemp industry.

States from Colorado to North Dakota to Kentucky are taking the lead in allowing farmers to grow industrial hemp, the non-psychoactive cousin to marijuana that has thousands of uses from food, textiles, dietary supplements and beauty care products to oil, paper, plastics, building materials and more. Yet, sharing of information and research among crop producers and farmers has been lagging in this emerging field.

The Farm & Agriculture Symposium, presented by Bija Hemp, a leading industrial hemp seed innovator based in Denver, CO, and produced by the Colorado Hemp Company, is a new feature of the 5th Annual NoCo Hemp Expo, or NoCo5, the largest gathering of hemp thought leaders, speakers, producers, entrepreneurs, and exhibitors from around the globe.

For farmers and agricultural producers, the full-day Farm & Ag Symposium will highlight early learnings, recommended production practices and market opportunities from pilot programs in Colorado, Kentucky, Pennsylvania and other states and regions where commercial hemp crops are permitted and/or licensed to be grown. The symposium also will feature new equipment for farmers and showcase agricultural exhibits.

Taking place over two days, April 6-7, 2018, at the Ranch Events Complex in Loveland, CO, the 5th Annual NoCo Hemp Expo is presented by PureHemp Technology. Programming includes two exhibition halls, a business summit presented by Hemp Business Journal, a Global Hemp Village, the Farm & Agriculture Symposium and more, where NoCo5 will showcase the latest products, innovations, research and advancements in the hemp industry world-wide.

Recognized by the Hemp Industries Association as the “Hemp Event of the Year,” NoCo5 is expected to draw more than 5,500 attendees and over 130 exhibitors. The trade show and conference is considered the most influential hemp-centric event in North America.

  • Happy Hemp Giving!

    Happy Hemp Giving!

    By Hunter Buffington

As we begin 2018, I wanted to investigate all the ways that you can support Industrial Hemp through donations. This blog will focus on two types of nonprofit organizations. The first 501(c)3 tax exempt nonprofits, are organizations that focus on public charity and education and ALL donations are tax exempt. Another type of nonprofit organization common in Industrial Hemp is the 501(c)6. A trade association allowed to work on public policy and legislation driven by its members. These organizations accept and also depend on donations to meet their budgets; while donations are not tax deductible, they can be written off as a business expense.

One of the most recognizable and well-known Hemp nonprofit organizations is Hemp History Week a 501(c)3 which works together with grassroots organizations, farmers, producers and advocates … to change Federal policy on Industrial Hemp in the United States. Connect with them online to participate in the 9th Annual Hemp History Week, June 4th-10th, 2018. Vote Hemp another 501(c)3 is a nationally based grassroots organization that focuses on supporting “…changes in current law to allow U.S. farmers to grow the crop…Our ultimate goal is having hemp grown on a commercial scale in the U.S. once again and for the crop to be able to be processed here as well”. The National Hemp Association a 501(c)3 that focuses on Hemp as a commodity and acts “To support the growth and development of all aspects of the industrial hemp industry…dedicated to shifting the perception of hemp as being an alternative crop to a mainstream commodity.”

The Hemp Industries Association, a 501(c)6 nonprofit trade association with chapters across the country including a chapter in Colorado. The Colorado Hemp Industries Association, formed in 2017 is a 501(c)6 “membership based nonprofit trade group that represents the interests of the hemp industry and to encourage the research and development of new products made from Industrial Hemp”. COHIA supports the mission of the national organization but focuses on hemp policy, economic development and trade development in Colorado.

In Colorado we have a number of 501(c)3 nonprofit organizations working to educate the public including: the Industrial Hemp Research Foundation, located in Denver the IHRF works to build the body of knowledge about the known and potential applications of Industrial Hemp. Based in Colorado Springs, the Realm of Caring “has a mission to improve lives through Research, Education, and Advocacy… Through Advocacy, we spread the truth about cannabis and expand access to those in need.”

The NoCo Hemp Expo has two favorite organizations that (while not in Colorado) exemplify our vision for Industrial Hemp. With a holistic understanding of the Hemp plant and its attributes we love the Wumaniti Earth Native Sanctuary in Taos NM, a 501(c)3 with a mission “to educate and promote the healing properties of hemp that support agricultural and sustainable economic lifestyles while healing both the earth’s land and our physical bodies”. This organization combines all of the social, economic and environmental outcomes that can be made real through Hemp.

  • Celebrate the first Hemp House built in America today!

Celebrate the first Hemp House built in America today!

Some may call me a Hemp enthusiast. But with all of the amazing properties of Industrial Hemp how can we not all be enthusiastic? Today, November 30th is the anniversary of the completion of the first Hempcrete house in the United States in 2015. Skeptical that it was only 2 years ago I decided to dig around and learn more. Shockingly building with Hemp and hempcrete itself is a new technology and not the age-old application of Hemp hurd and fiber that I thought it was. While Hemp fibers, seed and flower can be found in human history going back millennia, the use of hemp in building materials can only be documented beginning in the 6th century A.D. where it was combined with clay to make wall plaster in the Ellora Caves in India.

The first documented use of hemp as building material occurs in China as caulk for Junk ships in 200 BC where it was mixed with lime and tung oil. Hemp mortar follows in Merovingian bridges in France to reinforce abutments between 500 and 751 A.D. From here the history of Hempcrete is sparse until 1986 when Charles Basetti, an Italian master brick mason and builder collaborated with Madame France Périer (often credited with the creation of Hempcrete) to renovate Maison d´lAube in Paris France. The first new construction using Hempcrete (patented as – Isochanyre) wrapped around a timber frame was built in 1989, again in France. True Hempcrete arrived soon after in 1990 when Yves Kühn developed a construction process that allowed homes to be built entirely with Hempcrete using a moveable shutter system.

This construction method jump started the use of Hempcrete throughout France in the 1990’s, and spread throughout Europe finally arriving in the United States in 2000. The first Hempcrete project began on the Pine Ridge Reservation April 29th, 2000. Three types of hempcrete blocks imported from Europe were used to create the exterior of a home being built for Ernest Afraid of the Bear, a spiritual leader and Sioux elder. It would take another 15 years for the first permitted new construction Hemp house to be built in the United States.

The first “Hemp House” was built in Asheville, North Carolina on November 30th!The amazing attributes of this house have created renewed interest in building with Hemp and Hempcrete and is the reason that we are celebrating this revolutionary event today. Among these are pest and fire resistance, an insulation factor of r-2 per inch, is mildew resistance and like a growing Cannabis plant continues to pull Carbon from the atmosphere. Literally, a carbon sequestering house and the pinnacle of green building. Yet one more reason to grow more Hemp in America and promote Industrial Hemp as the world changing plant that it is.
