Exploring Hemp’s New Horizons With Morris Beegle

Hemp is where it’s at right now, especially in Colorado. Legal cannabis is cool and all — and we welcome Michigan and Vermont to the recreational party in 2019 — but that’s so 2015 in this state.

More about substance than style, industrial hemp’s many uses were finally recognized by the federal government in December, when President Donald Trump officially legalized it by signing the 2018 Farm Bill. Now that the plant is out from under the shadow of the Controlled Substances Act, it’s regulated by the Department of Agriculture and legal to farm in all fifty states.

But that doesn’t mean that growing hemp is just like growing tomatoes. The USDA’s regulations for farming hemp will be much more strict than they are for other crops, while the Food and Drug Administration will oversee how cannabidiol (CBD) from hemp is added to food and other products intended for human consumption. Colorado doesn’t necessarily have to follow those rules, however, since it legalized adult-use cannabis cultivation in 2012 and subsequently implemented laws allowing the sale of hemp- and CBD-infused foods within the state.

To predict what legalized hemp will mean in the new year, we checked in with Morris Beegle, former music promoter, founder of the NoCo Hemp Expo and an expert on the past, present and future of the hemp industry.

  • SHE’s writing hemp history in Nashville

SHE’s writing hemp history in Nashville

    by John Dvorak

The Southern Hemp Expo (SHE), held at the Nashville Fairgrounds in September 2018, was organized by Cecily Friday of the Tennessee Cannabis Coalition, Colleen Keahey Lanier, Executive Director of the Hemp Industries Association and hemptrepreneur extraordinaire Morris Beegle.  This trio of thought leaders worked tirelessly to replicate Beegle’s highly successful NOCO Hemp Expo in Tennessee.  They did an excellent job taking care of the speakers and attendees alike.  There was a lot of local media coverage of the Expo as people are realizing the regenerative effect that hemp can have for farmers and the economy.

For me, one of the many highlights was Eli Shalom’s hemp paper making lecture and demonstration.  Eli, who has been producing beautiful craft hemp paper for years, described how hemp fiber and water are added to an oval shaped beater where they go round and round as the fibers are pulled apart, churned and made more pliable.  The beater’s purpose is to macerate the hemp fibers, creating more surface area for them to link together during the papermaking process. The pulpy slurry is spread onto a framed screen where the individual fibers form bonds as the water drains.  Pressure is added to squeeze out excess water resulting in very strong and flexible sheets of hemp paper.

After Eli’s talk, I realized that the SHE was a beater in its own right: thousands of individuals pouring onto the circular trade show floor where 100 vendors stood ready to break open any misconceptions about cannabis hemp.  As people jostled with each other to make their way around, waves of hempformation flowed over them in a frenetic manner. Once this human slurry was mixed, the proto-hempsters poured into the lecture halls where they synergistically coalesced into something that is stronger than each individual.  The speakers acted as pressure that squeezed out misinformation and helped turn concepts into coherent action plans. I was honored to contribute to this effort by giving my Cannabis Curriculum presentation.  People left the Expo unified, strengthened and ready to write their own chapter of hempen history.  Now, I’ll try to turn the page on this tearable hemp paper analogy and get my sheet together.

Similar to what I experienced in Oklahoma recently, Cannabidiol (CBD) has taken the South by storm.  A large majority of vendors at the Expo were promoting this non-intoxicating cannabinoid and with good reason.  Stories abounded of CBD’s healing properties: controlling seizures, relieving pain and anxiety as well as being an anti-inflammatory and neuroprotectant.  A particularly poignant presentation was given by Janel Ralph of Palmetto Harmony who spoke passionately about how CBD has significantly improved the quality of life for her daughter, Harmony.

There were several more traditional hemp merchants there too including Sunstrand, which focuses on the many uses of the hemp stalk, from hurd based particle board to bast fiber insulation.  The humble hemp seed was not forgotten either, as Laura’s Hemp Chocolates and Victory Hemp both had tasty products on display.  Rick Trojan, who MC’d several speaker panels in an easy going and professional manner, was showing off his newly wrapped Hemp Road Trip bus in the SHE parking lot.  Keep an eye out for a tour date near you!

Numerous hemp luminaries were in attendance including Vote Hemp lobbyist Ben Droz, a study in perpetual motion and genuinely kind fellow.  Hemp pioneers Joe Hickey, Craig Lee and John Roulac were there to provide an experienced voice of reason and reality check.  It was encouraging to see a new generation of whole plant cannabis advocates, like Cait Curley, taking up the hempen mantle in an energetic and innovative manner.  I enjoyed finally meeting fellow hempologist, Daniel Isenstein, whose Hemp Highway of Kentucky website really drives home the canna-history of the Bluegrass State.

Ryan Loflin of Rocky Mountain Hemp shared his invaluable lessons learned growing hemp in Colorado while author, goat herder and uber-hempster Doug Fine lent good humor and poignant insights to the proceedings.  Veteran Mike Lewis, founder of the Growing Warriors Project, talked about the challenges and opportunities awaiting members of our armed services.

The ever cheerful Coach Freddie Cecchini was there documenting the event for his ihemp Revolution podcast.  He played his trademark washboard to complement the musical entertainment at the after party which also saw hempentainer and musical muse Aviva Vuvuzela perform her classic song Cannabis Car.  All in all, the Southern Hemp Expo was a resounding success and participants are already looking forward to writing more hemp history at next year’s event.

Leading Hemp Expo Producer Colorado Hemp Company Celebrates Historic Farm Bill Legalizing Industrial Hemp in the U.S.

World’s largest hemp expo producer poised to meet opportunities and challenges of legal hemp with industry-leading events including the upcoming town-hall style Winter Hemp Summit on January 11; the hemp industry’s flagship event, the 6th Annual NoCo Hemp Expo in Denver, March 29-30; and the second annual Southern Hemp Expo in Nashville, TN, and the 3rd Annual Hawaii Hemp Conference in Fall 2019.

Fort Collins, CO (December 21, 2018) – Following the successful second annual Hawaii Hemp Conference in Honolulu and President Trump’s signing of the 2018 Farm Bill into law—with watershed provisions to legalize industrial hemp—Colorado Hemp Company, the world’s largest hemp expo and conference producer, is ramping up to meet the unprecedented momentum surrounding the emerging industry in 2019.

“On a scale of 1 to 10, we’ve been operating at 11 for the past year,” said Colorado Hemp Company co-founder Morris Beegle. “Now we’re moving into overdrive, and we’re ready to take it ‘#OneLouder.’ It’s such an exciting time to be spreading the word about hemp,” he says.

“With the signing of the Farm Bill, a very long battle was won,” Beegle continues. “Hemp and all parts, including cannabinoids, extracts, and derivatives of the plant, have been removed from the Controlled Substances Act. All parts of the plant. After the Farm Bill passing both houses of congress and being signed today by President Trump, #Hemp is now explicitly legal and hemp prohibition is over. It’s great news for the cannabis plant (yes, hemp is cannabis and all cannabis should experience freedom), and for everyone who has fought for its freedom over the years, decades, centuries and millennia.”

As the hemp industry prepares for legalization, Colorado Hemp Company will host the Winter Hemp Summit on January 11, 2019, in Fort Collins, CO. The town hall-style one-day forum is sure to be lively as industry leaders take a look back over important events and issues of 2018, including the Farm Bill, and look forward to what’s to come in 2019.

The largest gathering of industry professionals ever under one roof will feature 70,000 square feet of exhibitions with more than 225 exhibitors, a business conference and agriculture & farm symposium, a global hemp village, science and technical workshops, a fashion parade and several networking events. For speaker and sponsor information, visit www.nocohempexpo.com.

“After five successful years in Fort Collins, we’re thrilled to bring this industry-leading event to a convenient location not only for Coloradoans but for people traveling from around the world to learn about and celebrate this plant,” Beegle said. “Our path of exponential growth reflects this industry’s extraordinary journey.”

On September 6 and 7, 2019, Southern Hemp Expo, a robust, program-rich trade show for the industrial, nutritional and therapeutic hemp industries, will return to Nashville, TN, to build on the success of this past year’s first-ever expo. The event will feature more than 100 vendors and exhibitors, more than 50 industry expert speakers, a business conference, farm symposium and plenty of networking opportunities.

The company also recently launched a weekly e-newsletter, Let’s Talk Hemp, covering news, entertainment and trends in the emerging hemp products market to accompany its Let’s Talk Hemp podcast featuring industry leaders Rick Trojan and Morris Beegle.

“To say we’re hitting the ground running in 2019 would be quite an understatement,” Beegle said. “It’s looking to be a groundbreaking year for this groundbreaking industry.”

Passage of the 2018 Farm Bill, which President Trump on December 20 signed into law, has been a watershed moment for the hemp industry. Mitch McConnell (R-Ky) stated it will “encourage new opportunities for struggling farmers and their families, new products for use in construction, health care, and manufacturing, and new jobs in a broad range of fields.”

  • Hemp Prohibition Ends in U.S.; President Signs Historic Farm Bill

Hemp Prohibition Ends in U.S.; President Signs Historic Farm Bill

Hemp Prohibition Ends in U.S.; President Signs Historic Farm Bill

President Donald Trump today signed the 2018 “Agriculture Improvement Act,” known to most Americans as the Farm Bill, removing industrial hemp from the controlled substances list. The historic legislation allows farmers and producers to grow and sell industrial hemp for the first time in over 80 years.

There was strong bipartisan support for the bill in Congress, which last week passed a sweeping $867 billion Farm Bill. President Trump was expected to sign the bill into law this week, spurred in part by pressure from farmers battered by an on-going trade war with China that has disproportionately affected U.S. producers of soy and other agricultural goods.

For hemp producers across the U.S., the Farm Bill is nothing but historic. “The Farm Bill…both legalizes hemp as an agricultural commodity and removes it from the controlled substances list. It gives states the opportunity to be the primary overseers of hemp production. It also allows hemp researchers to apply for competitive federal grants from the U.S. Department of Agriculture, and made hemp eligible for federal crop insurance. Together these features will encourage new opportunities for struggling farmers and their families, new products for use in construction, health care, and manufacturing, and new jobs in a broad range of fields,” said Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-KY), sponsor of the hemp provision.

The final five-year Farm Bill sets policies and reauthorizes farm, conservation, nutrition, rural development, agricultural trade and other programs. In an interview with Fox Business News earlier today, USDA Secretary Sonny Perdue welcomed the new hemp legalization. “This is an industrial-use product, medicinally as well as other products, and we look forward to developing markets for it if it’s a profitable crop. Agriculture needs new products,” he said.

Mitch McConnell Offers to Loan President Trump His Hemp Pen to Sign Historic Farm Bill Legalizing Industrial Hemp

In a speech on the Senate floor on December 12, Mitch McConnell (R-KY) celebrated the passage of the 2018 Farm Bill with provisions for legalizing industrial hemp in the United States – a historic move and a watershed moment for the emerging hemp industry.

“What exactly does this legislation do?” asked McConnell. “The Farm Bill we passed yesterday both legalizes hemp as an agricultural commodity and removes it from the controlled substances list. It gives states the opportunity to be the primary overseers of hemp production. It also allows hemp researchers to apply for competitive federal grants from the U.S. Department of Agriculture, and made hemp eligible for federal crop insurance. “I look forward to the House passing our Farm Bill soon and sending it to President Trump for his signature. I’d be happy to loan him my hemp pen for the occasion,” McConnell added.[/vc_column_text][divider line_type=”No Line” custom_height=”15″]

    Tickets and Information: www.hawaiihempconference.com

HONOLULU, HI (November 12, 2018) – Fresh on the heels of Hawaii’s first legal hemp harvest, the second annual Hawaii Hemp Conference will gather the most knowledgeable hemp experts from the islands (and the world) at the Hawaii Convention Center in Honolulu on December 1, 2018. Join us for a not-to-be-missed day of education from leading researchers, farmers, and entrepreneurs about hemp cultivation, sales and marketing, and a full expo hall with hemp vendors and products.

“Hemp is emerging as a cash crop that could revitalize agriculture in Hawaii, and the Hawaii Hemp Conference will deliver the cutting-edge information and education that people need to grow, produce, and sell it,” said Colorado Hemp Company co-founder Morris Beegle, who produces the Hawaii Hemp Conference, as well as the Colorado-based NoCo Hemp Expo and Nashville-based Southern Hemp Expo. “The industry’s leaders will be on hand to help people grow their hemp businesses, no matter where they live. Hemp is a vibrant industry growing at an astronomical pace, and the networking opportunities will be unmatched.”

Presenting Sponsor Vespucci Collective Catalyzing Hawaii’s Hemp Industry

Hawaii Hemp Conference’s 2018 Presenting Sponsor is Vespucci Collective, an industrial hemp resource company conceived out of a desire to preserve and protect the beautiful natural environment of the Hawaiian Islands, where the company’s founders grew up.

“Hemp holds untold potential to enable a prosperous and environmentally sustainable agricultural economy that can greatly benefit the people of Hawaii,” said Vespucci Collective CEO and Co-founder Grant Overton. “One of our company’s primary objectives is to produce quality open-source research on hemp cultivation. We’re trying to create a more comprehensive knowledge base for farmers looking to get into the industry; think of it like a How To Guide for growing hemp in Hawaii. Beyond cultivation, the biggest limitation in getting farmers to start growing hemp is providing them a market for harvests. Raw hemp biomass usually needs to be transformed into a salable product, which is largely too expensive for the average farmer. It is our company’s vision to build the necessary manufacturing infrastructure here in the Hawaiian islands to enable other farmers to get involved. Developing a system that allows any farmer access to this opportunity is the driving force behind our planned operations,” he added.

    World-Class Speaker Line-up

World-class speakers will discuss the following topics, among others, on the Let’s Talk Hemp stage and in workshops:

    • Tropical soil cultivation techniques
    • The latest on federal and state law
    • The benefits of regenerative agriculture
    • The hottest worldwide markets including CBD
    • Seed, fiber and flower used in products
    • Department of Agriculture regulatory update

The speaker lineup features local agricultural leaders, University of Hawaii researchers, legislators and legal experts, including:

    • Hawaii Farmers Union United President Vincent Mina, who co-owns an organically managed urban family farm, Kahanu Aina Greens, with his wife, Irene
    • Chef, farmer and farm-to-plate advocate James Simpliciano, founder of Simpli-fresh Produce, a West Maui farm cooperative where he mentors aspiring farmers, chefs and environmental engineers
    • Janel Ralph, president and CEO of Palmetto Synergistic Research, which produces a line of organically grown whole plant hemp products known as Palmetto Harmony
    • Bestselling author, filmmaker and “hemp cowboy” Doug Fine, who wrote Hemp Bound, Willy Nelson’s “best book of the year”

Exciting Time for Hemp in Hawaii

It is a particularly exciting time for the hemp industry in Hawaii, which launched its Industrial Hemp Pilot Program in July 2017 and granted three farmers the first licenses to grow 10 acres each of Yuma, a hemp variety from China. “I’m convinced that Hawaii is well positioned to become a leader in hemp and we’ll have many farmers applying to be licensed,” State Sen. Mike Gabbard, who introduced the legislation, said in a statement. “My vision is that we’ll one day, in the not too distant future, have a hemp cottage industry that’s the envy of the world.”

“Hawaii’s farmers and wider economy need food independence as much as any place in the world,” said keynote speaker Doug Fine, who also is a researcher affiliated with the University of Hawaii’s hemp seed development project. “Hemp provides an opportunity for Hawaii to achieve these goals, and the Hawaii Hemp Conference will provide an opportunity to be educated by local farmers as well as worldwide hemp experts.”

With skyrocketing popularity of hemp for food, fiber, and its therapeutic non-psychoactive cannabinoid CBD, domestic production of hemp, or cannabis sativa, is reaching new heights. U.S. hemp-based product sales grew 16% to reach $820 million in sales in 2017 and is expected to surpass $1 billion in sales in 2018, led primarily by hemp-derived CBD, food, personal care and industrial products, according to the publication Hemp Business Journal – a number not lost on politicians. This past spring, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) introduced the Hemp Farming Act of 2018, which would remove hemp from the federal list of controlled substances and allow it to be sold as an agricultural crop.

Sponsor and vendor registration is still open and limited space remains. You can apply here or contact us for more information at info@hawaiihempconference.com.

Former NFL Players and a Fine Man Growing Hemp in George Washington’s Garden Among the Stellar Speakers for the First-Ever Southern Hemp Expo in Nashville

Brightest Lights in Hemp Farming and Business to Ignite the Revolution as the World’s Largest Industrial Hemp Expo Heads to Fairgrounds Nashville, September 28 and 29

Nashville, TN (September 11, 2018) – Former Miami Dolphins left tackle, Jake Long and Super Bowl champion Matt Wilhelm, will be among the hemp pioneers, experts, entrepreneurs and advocates who will gather for the inaugural Southern Hemp Expo (SHE) as Colorado Hemp Company brings its wildly popular NoCo Hemp Expo, the world’s largest industrial hemp exposition held each spring in Colorado, to the Fairgrounds Nashville in Tennessee on September 28 and 29.

“SHE – and the feminine acronym is intentional – will be a who’s who of the hemp industry, which is exploding so quickly it’s tough to keep up,” said NoCo Hemp Expo co-founder and co-producer Morris Beegle. “This is where it all comes together – where the connections are made and the pathways opened to take this industry to the next level.”

Along with hemp advocates Long and Wilhelm, who use CBD for pain, the speaker lineup is packed with hemp industry luminaries offering insight and wisdom on a main stage and during a business conference and agricultural symposium.

Keynote speaker Dean Norton, horticulture director for the historic Mount Vernon estate, will talk about growing hemp at George Washington’s home in Mount Vernon, Virginia, for the first time in 260 years. (He just harvested the first crop.) Cannabis pioneer Doug Fine, an entrepreneur, regenerative farmer, and bestselling author who is a favorite on Conan and Tonight Show, will delight attendees with his stories of hemp from around the world.

Highly anticipated appearances by John Roulac, Founder of Nutiva, and Janel Ralph, CEO of Palmetto Harmony, will engage the audience with their industry expertise in speaking sessions on both days of the Expo.

Entrepreneurs like Artisan Hemp founder Elishewa Shalom, Vicente Sederberg LLC founder Sally Peebles, Satya Kama founder Shadi Ramey, Hempcrete builder Eric McKee, hempologist John Dvorak, Functional Remedies president Tim Gordon, Apeks Supercritical founder Andy Joseph, and WillPower founder Will Carr, among many others, will share what it takes to make it to the top of an industry even as it’s being born.

Based on the sold-out fifth annual NoCo Hemp Expo in April, the need for this type of knowledge sharing and networking in the hemp industry is deep. “George Washington famously said, ‘Make the most of the Indian hemp seed and sow it everywhere,’” Beegle said. “We will be doing just that.”

The guitars are the centerpiece for a line that also includes components and accessories. WAFBA has organized several strategic partnerships to source the products, said Morris Beegle, founder and owner at Ft. Collins, Colorado-based WAFBA.

“We’re demonstrating the potential to establish a supply chain with great partners who are committed to earth-friendly practices,” Beegle said of the development of the products, all of which have hemp in them. “Our entire business model is really centered around that.”

    Highly customizable

SMH looks to stand out in the highly competitive musical instrument market by offering guitars built to customers’ specifications. “The plan is to let buyers customize their guitars with different color finishes, electronics, bridges, fretboards, tuners and knobs,” said Beegle, a 30-year veteran of the American entertainment industry. His firm also is owner of the Colorado-based NoCo Hemp Expo as well as Southern Hemp Expo, which debuts in Nashville, Tennessee this month.

WAFBA will roll out its first two models – the Silver Mountain Hemp Guitar (SMHG), and the HempCaster – during the Nashville event.

    Classic designs

The guitars, supplied by Canadian Hemp Guitars (CHG), Quebec, are inspired by classic designs from legendary guitar makers Gibson and Fender, the SG and Telecaster models, respectively, Beegle said.

Marketing and sales of the SMH line will initially be through online channels and at hemp and cannabis trade events.

CHG guitars have a wood core underneath a molded composite of pressed hemp bast fibers on the back, sides and top. The Canadian company, started in 2012 by musicians Boyd Pellow and Stewart Burrows, makes a line of eco-friendly, hard-bodied instruments designed with a nod to the classic American chambered-body guitars of the 1960s.

    Hemp in speakers

Meanwhile, Beegle has assembled Hard Truckers, a boutique cabinet group that’s building speaker cabinets with hemp board supplied by Sunstrand, a maker of natural composites based in Louisville, Kentucky, USA. Sunstrand makes natural fiber-based products for the construction, automotive, electrical & electronics, and recreation industries.

Speakers inside the cabinets are from San Francisco-based Tone Tubby, whose Tone Tubby Cones substitute the paper component in high-quality speakers with more durable and tear-resistant organic hemp fiber-based material.

A range of hemp-plastic control knobs and picks made by Green Spring Technologies, Ft. Worth, Texas, with guitar straps from Poland-based Natural Materials Unlimited, Warsaw, round out the SMH line, which Beegle says will expand over time.

Inaugural Southern Hemp Expo, Announces Presenting Sponsor Bluhen Botanicals

The First Annual Southern Hemp Expo to Feature Exhibit Hall, Networking Opportunities, and Presentations and Workshops by Pioneers, Innovators, Entrepreneurs and Activists in the Rapidly Expanding Hemp Industry at The Fairgrounds Nashville, Sept. 28-29, 2018

Nashville, TN — (ReleaseWire) — 08/29/2018 –The Southern United States is rapidly emerging as an epicenter of industrial hemp production, and the producers of NoCo Hemp Expo – the world’s largest hemp exposition held each Spring in Colorado – are celebrating this fact by launching the first annual Southern Hemp Expo this fall in Nashville, TN, to serve the burgeoning Southern region and to promote innovation in the market for all things hemp.

On the heels of its sold-out, over-capacity show drawing more than 6,000 attendees and 150 diverse exhibitors, the Colorado-based NoCo Hemp Expo is taking the momentum southeast, launching the Inaugural Southern Hemp Expo (SHE), Sept. 28-29, 2018, at The Fairgrounds Nashville.

    Presenting Sponsor Blühen Botanicals

In addition to a broad group of Sponsor and Exhibitor Partners, Tennessee hometown hero Blühen Botanicals will be featured as the Presenting Sponsor of Southern Hemp Expo. The two-day conference and exposition is open to entrepreneurs, business leaders, investors, manufacturers, producers, agriculturalists and consumers interested in products made from hemp and full spectrum hemp extract.

Founded by a dedicated team of Knoxville, TN-based entrepreneurs, soil scientists, farmers and hemp advocates, Blühen Botanicals’ state-of-the-art, industrial hemp processing facility will be able to process 2,000 pounds of hemp biomass per day, with the potential to rapidly scale output beyond that capacity to create jobs and help Tennessee farmers grow a traditional cash crop well suited to the region.

“The CBD oil industry is virtually unknown to the vast majority of U.S. consumers, and we’re excited to be on the leading edge in the Southeast,” said Joe Fox, one of the partners behind Blühen Botanicals. “It has great potential to help millions of people with pain and anxiety and a myriad of other health issues. As this year’s Presenting Sponsor, we’re also delighted to welcome members of the hemp industry to the Southern Hemp Expo,” he said.

According to Fox, Blühen Botanicals, based in Knoxville, TN, will be the largest hemp biomass processing and extraction facility in Tennessee and one of the largest in the Southeast. Blühen Botanicals is projected to employ two dozen people within two years and expand its number of farming partners to grow high-yield industrial hemp crops, says Fox. The company also is exploring partnerships with universities around the country to further expand hemp genetics research and development. Visit www.bluhenbotanicals.com.

    Hemp Industry Juggernaut

“The South is emerging as a leader in hemp production, and there’s never been a more exciting time in our industry,” said Colorado Hemp Company co-founder Morris Beegle, producer of SHE and NoCo Hemp Expo. “Hemp innovation is taking off, and legislative reform is around the corner,” Beegle said. “SHE will provide an important forum for regenerative, organic agriculture and a festive and effective venue for expanding crucial dialogue in the exploding commercial hemp products market.”

Other Sponsors for the Southern Hemp Expo include: GenCanna, Kat’s Naturals, LabCanna, Lilu’s Gardens, Softgel Co., Bluebird Botanicals, ProVerde Labs, Kazmira, Anavii Market, Bish Equipment, WillPower Products, Restorative Botanicals, Colorado Hemp Project, Palmetto Harmony, Hempsac, The Hemp Road Trip, and Silver Mountain Hemp Guitars. SOUTHERN ACCENTS: Wildly Successful NoCo Hemp Expo Puts Down Roots in Tennessee

Loveland, CO – July 10, 2018 – On the heels of its sold-out, over-capacity show drawing more than 6,000 attendees and 150 diverse exhibitors, the Colorado-based NoCo Hemp  Expo is taking the party south and east, launching the Inaugural Southern Hemp Expo (SHE), Sept. 28-29, 2018, at The Fairgrounds Nashville in Nashville, TN.

“The South is a leader and will continue to be a leader in hemp production, and we are very excited to bring this dynamic gathering of industry movers and shakers to the region,” said Colorado Hemp Company co-founder Morris Beegle, producer of NoCo Hemp Expo, who also noted the theme of the inaugural SHE event is “Bringing Balance Back to Mother Earth.”

“The 2018 NoCo Hemp Expo was far and away the biggest and best hemp event we have produced yet,” Beegle continued. “The interest level for this plant and all that it can do is overwhelming. We are excited to launch this expo in the Eastern U.S. With the first annual SHE event in Nashville in September and NoCo6 in Denver in March, our shows are firmly grounded in the country’s strongest regions for hemp production.”

With rising acceptance and popularity of hemp for food, fiber, and its therapeutic nonpsychoactive cannabinoid CBD, domestic production of hemp, or cannabis sativa, is reaching new heights. U.S. hemp-based product sales grew 16% to reach $820 million in sales in 2017  nd is expected to surpass $1 billion in sales in 2018, led primarily by hemp-derived CBD, food, personal care and industrial products, according to the publication Hemp Business

    The Feminine Touch

SHE – feminine acronym intended – will offer networking opportunities, presentations and workshops by pioneers, innovators and activists including the leading women and business professionals in industrial hemp. The fifth annual NoCo Hemp Expo in Loveland, Colo., in April, featured keynote speaker, activist and hemp entrepreneur Winona LaDuke, who illuminated hemp’s value in driving a new economy for rural and Native American communities. Other keynotes featured were Nature’s Path Foods founder Arran Stephens, who discussed why he’s been investing in farmland to cultivate organic hemp.

“I was amazed at the buzz of the show,” said Arran Stephens, co-founder and co-CEO of Nature’s Path Foods and a keynote speaker at the recent NoCo 5 event. “In some ways, it reminded me of the spirit of the early organic food trade shows. This is really the beginning of a strong new movement.”

“Hemp production is taking off so fast, and law reform is so close” Beegle said. “There’s never been a more exciting time in this industry, and SHE provides a festive and effective forum for expanding crucial dialogue about the latest developments and opportunities in the commercial hemp products market.”
