Imagine Hawaii making its own auto parts, batteries and road components — all from island-grown bio-materials like hemp. We’ll talk about how to take this from dream to reality.” Other realities to be covered include legislative and regulatory hurdles; how to farm hemp in Hawaii; planting, harvesting and processing equipment needed to succeed; seeds, clones and genetics compatible with a tropical climate; and the myriad of product possibilities that can come from a crop which will restore and replenish Hawaii’s soil and waterways.

The mini-expo will feature products and services from over 20 companies, both Hawaiian and from the mainland, takes place is the Hilo Hawaiian Hotel lobby, and is free to the public. • Celebrate Hemp History Week in Tropical Hawaii June 10th

Celebrate Hemp History Week in Tropical Hawaii June 10th

The 8th annual Hemp History Week is June 5-11th and will be celebrated across the country in a variety of ways. HHW is a grassroots effort to recognize our historical connection to hemp, advocate for the full legalization of hemp farming, and introduce consumers to the wide variation of hemp products on the market and the benefits of choosing hemp over other alternatives.

With events that range from festivals to picnics to farm tours, there is something for everyone. And if you don’t see an event to your liking near you? Start your own! This is a grassroots campaign, after all, so anyone is welcome to register their own event on the Hemp History Week website.

There are many festivals and conferences planned for this week, including the inaugural Hawaii Hemp Conference in Hilo, Hawaii on June 10th. Hemp enthusiasts and entrepreneurs will come together for a weekend of work and fun focused on the burgeoning hemp industry in Hawaii.

As event producer, Morris Beegle said, “The opportunity to put together a local-centric hemp conference with a national and global perspective presented itself, and we jumped on it.  Hawaii, not unlike many other states, has a big need for a replacement crop that can help rejuvenate both the local economy and the environment.  There is no other agricultural crop on the planet that provides this opportunity to the extent that industrial hemp does today.  Hawaii has several good legislators who understand this, and who seem committed to doing the right thing for the people of Hawaii.  The timing couldn’t be better to push this across the finish line, not only for Hawaii but across the entire United States.”

While you are well aware that Hawaii is a vacation paradise, did you know it’s also a farming paradise? This makes it an ideal place to grow hemp and its new presence on the hemp farming landscape makes it the perfect place to celebrate Hemp History week.

Hawaii’s year-round warm weather allows for 3 harvests a year, unlike more temperate climates on the mainland that can only grow one. Its fertile volcanic soil has been harnessed for generations as the perfect medium for both small farms and large operations, such as the sugar cane plantations.

Now that the sugar plantations are gone, Hawaiians are working on restoring the ecological damage the plantations inflicted on the islands. Pesticide and herbicide – free hemp can help to  rejuvenate soils, and hemp grown for oil or food fits perfectly for traditional small-scale family farm operations.

At the government level many officials strongly support hemp production in Hawaii, in fact, three of the keynote speakers are state and federal-level officials, including Tulsi Gabbard from the US House of Representatives. Representative Gabbard strongly supports legalizing marijuana and industrial hemp farm and  is a co-sponsor of HB525 – The Industrial Hemp Farming Act bill.

Advocates and farmers alike have a lot of excitement for all the possibilities that the new hemp farming industry brings to the islands. You can be sure they will make a large contribution to the national conversation on hemp and will be a key player going forward.

For these reasons and much more, Hawaii is one of the most exciting places to be this Hemp History Week.

Hurry! Early bird tickets are on sale until May 26th. Visit the Hawaii Hemp Conference website to learn more and get your tickets!

The Hawaii Hemp Conference is produced by Colorado Hemp Company and  presented by  Functional Remedies, which cultivates organic hemp and a produces whole plant processed full spectrum hemp extracts.

THC-Limits for Hemp Hurt the Industry and the Environment

Hemp is arguably the most versatile plant on the planet. It is well documented that hemp can be used to make things like paper and rope, but hemp can also do so much more.

The hemp plant can be used to make fuel in the form of bio-diesel. It can also be used to make medicine. A team of scientists even built a super-capacitor out of hemp. A super-capacitor is an energy storage device, like a battery.

Hemp has been prohibited in the United States since 1937, but a 2014 Farm Bill provided for exceptions in states that have legalized hemp for research and/or pilot program purposes.

To date, 31 states have passed such laws according to the organization Vote Hemp. Hemp production has taken off in many states, with states like Kentucky nearly tripling production in 2017 (a total of 12,800 acres).

The spread of hemp reform has been paralleled by an increase in public awareness about the wellness benefits of cannabidiol (CBD), which is found in abundance in hemp plants.

  • NoCo Hemp Expo showcases region as leader in hemp industry

NoCo Hemp Expo showcases region as leader in hemp industry

    By Jensen Werley —

LOVELAND  — The NoCo Hemp Expo returns this weekend and will host feature some of the first U.S.-built equipment necessary for the fledgling industry.

The festival will take place Friday and Saturday, March 31 and April 1, at The Ranch Events Complex in Loveland.

About 4,000 people are expected to come to the fourth annual event, Morris Beegle, festival organizer and founder of Colorado Hemp Co., told BizWest.

In addition to being larger than last year — about 3,000 people came in 2016, Beegle said — a new feature this year will be a tent designated for hemp artists and activists.

Another new addition will be a showcase for hemp equipment, including some of the first production equipment built in the United States.

The GrassHopper, made by Power Zone Equipment, collects and stores profitable hemp. It is the first of its kind to be built stateside — in Center, Colo. — and is directly attributed to Colorado’s growing hemp industry.

Having agricultural equipment at the Expo will be a chance to showcase innovations in agriculture because of hemp.

“Farming equipment and technology is something we have to figure out as a fledgling industry,” Beegle said. “It’s exciting to have a company like Power Zone, with the ability to make most anything, looking for new opportunities and excited about hemp.”

Beegle said as this type of farming grows, the processing side will take off, so farmers have a place where they can bring their crop and have it processed.

Because Amendment 64 opened the door for hemp production when it legalized recreational marijuana use in Colorado, the state is a leader in the farming practice, hence the need for and growth of events like the Hemp Expo.

“Colorado is a leader in industrial hemp now,” Beegle said. “Amendment 64 allowed us to get a head start on everyone else. It’s a natural draw to Colorado and brings attention to North Colorado. This area has really embraced hemp.”

Registration for the event is available here.

  • NoCo Hemp Expo explores growing industry

NoCo Hemp Expo explores growing industry

From pet products to building materials, industry finding many uses for hemp

    By Aruka SanchirReporter-Herald Staff Writer

Clothing, food and pets all had one thing in common at the fourth annual NoCo Hemp Expo on a misty Saturday at the Ranch Events Complex in Loveland.

The two-day event started on Friday with an event designed for those involved in the hemp industry. Saturday’s event was open to the general public and featured panel talks, artists, demonstrations and more than 100 booths.

Lines of cars filled the muddy parking lot and over 4,500 attendees bustled around to a variety of activities centered around hemp at the events center. Demonstrations such as “Cooking Creatively With Hemp,” “Coffee Roasting and Infusion” and “Hemp Paper Making” occurred every hour for the public. Panelists aimed to inform attendees with talks such as “Hemp 101,” “Industrial Uses of Hemp,” “Essential Oils and Botanical Extracts” and more.

“I was interested in CBD (cannabidiol) oil and I’m getting a lot of information about it here. I think people are learning more at events like this,” said Loveland resident Pamela Thomas.

“There’s a lot of stigma attached to hemp, but I believe it’s going to save the world,” said attendee Chanin Tila.

Waves of attendees streamed in and out through the assortment of booths filled with information and samples. Attendees could try hemp oil derived from CBD at booths, such as THR Technologies and EnerHealth, focusing on health and wellness.

Cannabidiol (CBD) hemp oil contains very low levels of THC and therefore, is non-psychoactive.

“Give it a try because we live in an overwhelmingly stressful time right now. We need as much support as we can and that starts with what we put in our body,” said Michael Harinen, a spokesperson for Bluebird Botanicals.

Pets had a popular spotlight in the expo, with companies like RxCBD and Bark Avenue setting out samples of dog and cat treats infused with CBD. They attributed the anti-inflammatory benefits of CBD to helping animals, especially older pets, with anxiety and allergies.

“A lot of people tried traditional remedies and found that it didn’t help with their pet’s seizures or anxiety. They found that typically CBD does (help),” said RxCBD co-founder Debbie Cokes.

Before heading to the food trucks parked outside the venue, attendees sampled a variety of foods created with hemp seeds. Carla Boyd, founder of Hemp Way, served hamburgers with hemp hearts and all-natural ingredients. Ari Scherman, co-founder of Evo Hemp, spoke to attendees about the health benefits of the plant while passing out samples of granola bars.

“It’s the most nutrient dense product. Hemp seeds have a perfect array of minerals, as well as a lot of protein,” said Scherman.

Another booth attracting attendees was the Left Hand Hemp company, teaching people how to build with “hempcrete.” With a block of “hempcrete” and “Hemp Hurd” rocks at the booth, attendees could see firsthand the materials used by the company.

“It could be the No. 1 sustainable building material in the country because it will not burn and it’s mold and pest proof. There are no harmful chemicals in it,” said CEO Kelly Thornton.

Much like Left Hand Hemp’s goal, the conversations heard around the expo aimed to inform the public of the sustainability of the hemp plant.

“There are all types of applications for hemp,” said Neshama Abraham, founding Communications Director of the National Hemp Association, adding that all parts of the plant are usable for something. “To make a sustainable environment, buy hemp and enable farmers to make hemp. We want a sustainable planet and we’ve found a plant that’s going to help us to do that.”

Throughout the variety of activities and products at the event, the focus remained on the importance of growing hemp locally.

“We want to help people stay employed and keep the local economy growing. We’ve got the talent,” said Robbie Jaramillo, director of customer support of EnerHealth.

“It’s about revitalizing your community, whether it’s building material, medicine or cleaning products, growing locally is where it’s at. Anyone from the farmers to the end user is going to benefit,” said Dani Billings, president of Nature Roots Spa. “We have to educate people to live sustainably. Education is key.”

Join the largest gathering of its kind in North America, where everyone has a role in Setting the Stage for Hemp Tomorrow

Loveland, CO — (ReleaseWire) — 01/11/2017 –Early bird tickets for NoCo Hemp Expo 2017 are on sale through January 27th. Industry experts from around the globe will be in attendance, and thousands of burgeoning entrepreneurs, investors, innovators, farmers, and consumers alike, will descend upon the Loveland location to join the hemp revolution currently underway in the USA.

The NoCo Hemp Expo Hall will be filled with exhibitors and sponsors showcasing a wide array of products, services, technology, and equipment that is set to open up a multi-billion dollar domestic industry in the next three to five years. Products include textiles and apparel, building materials, super foods, bodycare, personal wellness and health supplements, bio-plastics and composites, paper and specialty board products, nano-tech fiber technologies, extraction and processing equipment, and much more. This is where you will learn everything you need to learn about the non-psychoactive side of the cannabis plant. This is where you will learn that hemp is not marijuana.

Section 7606 of the 2014 Farm Bill, passed by Congress and signed into law by President Obama, differentiates industrial hemp from marijuana at the federal level, and legalizes the growth and production in states that have passed legislation and setup the regulatory framework through the department of agriculture. It defines industrial hemp as follows:

“The term ‘industrial hemp’ means the plant Cannabis sativa L. and ANY PART OF SUCH PLANT, whether growing or not, with a delta-9 tetrahydrocannabinol concentration of not more than 0.3 percent on a dry weight basis.”

The 2014 Farm Bill language reaffirms and expands the 2004 Ninth Circuit Court’s ruling on imported industrial hemp in HIA vs. DEA that protects naturally occurring cannabinoids, including delta-9 tetrahydrocannabinol concentration not more than 0.3 percent on a dry weight basis.

This week, Congressman Jared Polis of Colorado and Congressman Thomas Massie of Kentucky reintroduced the Industrial Hemp Farming Act which would completely remove Industrial Hemp from the Controlled Substances Act. “The federal ban on hemp has been a waste of taxpayer dollars that ignores science, suppresses innovation, and subverts the will of states that have chosen to incorporate this versatile crop into their economies,” said Representative Polis.

The NoCo Hemp Expo enters its fourth year at The Ranch Events Complex on March 31 and April 1, 2017, in Loveland, Colorado. The expo has grown from just over 300 attendees in 2014 to more than 3,000 in 2016. Attendance is expected to exceed 4,000 in 2017. These numbers reflect growth nationally in market interest and production of industrial hemp. Roughly 200 acres planted in various states in 2014 grew to more than 10,000 acres planted in 2016, with an additional 2 million+ square feet of indoor greenhouse space growing high cannabinoid, non-psychoactive hemp targeted for the health and wellness sectors of industry. More than 30 states have passed hemp legislation that effectively nullifies the outdated and incorrect inclusion of industrial hemp within the Controlled Substances Act.

Colorado Hemp Company president and NoCo Hemp Expo Founder Morris Beegle recently stated, “Industrial hemp, along with all of the nutritional, nutraceutical, health and wellness benefits, are one side of the beneficiary coin for those living in the United States. The other side includes the tremendous economical and environmental benefits of allowing farmers nationwide to grow hemp without impediment from the overreaching arm of the federal government. Industrial hemp is a crop that should be managed by the Department of Agriculture, just like corn, soy, and potatoes, and should not have interference from the DEA or FDA. Industrial hemp is an ag crop…period.”
