Hemp Industry Call to Action: Vote Hemp Urges Community to Sign Petition Calling for Congress to Allow 1% THC Levels in Hemp

    By Steven Hoffman

Washington, DC-based advocacy group Vote Hemp is urging the hemp community to take advantage of a narrow window on Capitol Hill to sign and submit a petition telling Congress to change the legal definition of hemp to allow 1% THC. Arbitrarily set by Canadian cannabis researcher Dr. Ernest Small in the 1970s, the currently allowed 0.3% limit has proved to be problematic for growers, producers and manufacturers alike, and Vote Hemp and its supporters feel that action has to be taken now.

Even Dr. Small agrees, more than four decades later, that “a 0.3% level is very conservative,” he told Cannabis Now in December 2018. He stressed that the allowed 0.3% THC designation for hemp has had negative implications for biodiversity. “0.3% is proving a little problematical for those who wish to produce some cultivars,” he told Cannabis Now. “It’s an especially stringent criterion [for] those who want to produce CBD. Most of the varieties selected for that have in excess of 0.3%, which is kind of inconvenient.”

“We’ve been trying to think strategically; I don’t want to create false hope given that Congress is going on summer recess in a month, and may not get much done in the last few months of the general election year,” said Eric Steenstra, Executive Director of Vote Hemp. “However, farmers and producers are frustrated, and we need to start making some noise about this. We hope to submit as many signatures as we can in the next 30 days, and encourage all members of the hemp community to sign and share the petition with their friends, colleagues and co-workers.”

500 Farmers, Enthusiasts Attend 4th Annual Hemp on the Slope

    By Heather Collins

PHOTO: Hemp on the Slope, held on July 20 in Collbran, CO, drew 500 farmers, producers, manufacturers, advocates and others to Colorado’s Western Slope for a day of education, networking and information exchange as Colorado and the Western U.S. position as leaders in industrial hemp production.

The rural town of Collbran, Colorado, located at the base of the Grand Mesa on the Western Slope, was alive on Saturday, July 20, 2019, in part due to the Hemp on the Slope summit that took place at beautiful Salt Creek Ranch.

The Colorado Hemp Company, Salt Creek Hemp Co,  and Colorado Hemp Project hosted this educational hemp-centric event, which attracted nearly 500 attendees including experienced hemp farmers and some growers that are new to the industry. Lively discussions were held, including informative question and answer sessions focused on farming industrial hemp for food, fuel, fiber, animal nutrition, building materials, and many other uses of non-psychoactive cannabis.

This year’s Hemp on the Slope featured more than 25 exhibitors that ranged from farm equipment processing demonstrations, to skin care to soil. There were many community advocates on hand to discuss the benefits of hemp production and answer concerns regarding FDA and USDA regulations. In addition, industry leading speakers discussed the economic impact hemp production will have on local economies and its rapid growth as a top commodity for Colorado and beyond.

Next year’s Hemp on the Slope is already underway with plans for it to expand to Grand Junction. If you’re interested in attending more seminars and events like Hemp on the Slope, be sure to check out the  2nd Annual Southern Hemp Expo on Sept. 6 – 7, 2019 in Franklin, TN. Join in on the fun and visit with more than 5,000 farmers, entrepreneurs, investors, manufacturers, retailers, and consumers during this year’s Expo, which will be a program-rich conference, exhibition and trade show structured specifically for the rapidly growing industrial, nutritional, and therapeutic hemp industries. Attendees will receive up-to-date information about federal and state legislation and regulations, current trends in CBD and hemp supplements; the latest developments in processing, technology and innovation; certification, compliance and lab testing; and breeding, genetics, seeds and clones, and more.

“We Need a Bigger Boat!” 5th Annual NoCo Hemp Expo Sells Out, Will Move to Larger Venue Next Year

6,000 People Came to Network, Learn, and Play at the High-Energy, Jam-Packed 2018 NoCo Hemp Expo Highlighting the Latest Innovations, Market Research and Opportunities in Industrial Hemp, Held April 6-7, 2018, at The Ranch Events Center in Loveland, CO

Loveland, CO (April 11, 2018) – Attracting a sold-out crowd of 6,000 attendees – 1,300 more than last year – and more than 150 diverse exhibitors, the 5th Annual NoCo Hemp Expo has come a long way since its humble beginning as a gathering of 350 enthusiasts in 2014. The premier show serving the $2 billion hemp industry has grown so much, in fact, that it will move to a larger convention center in the Denver area on March 29-30, 2019.

“The 2018 NoCo Hemp Expo was far and away the biggest and best hemp event we have produced yet,” said NoCo Hemp Expo Co-founder Morris Beegle. “The interest level for this plant and all that it can do was overwhelming. Next year’s NoCo6 event will be moved to a new location. As the great Sheriff Brody once said, ‘We’re going to need a bigger boat!’”

Recognized by the Hemp Industries Association as the “Hemp Event of the Year,” NoCo draws professionals from the agricultural, industrial, nutritional, therapeutic and fashion hemp industries as well as policymakers and nonprofits spearheading legislative reform around hemp. Just one week before the Expo took place, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY), along with Senators Ron Wyden (D-OR) and Rand Paul (R-KY) announced the planned introduction of the Hemp Farming Act of 2018, which would remove hemp from the list of controlled substances and allow it to be sold as an agricultural commodity.

This year the NoCo Hemp Expo expanded into an additional building for a one-day Hemp Summit for entrepreneurs and investors on Friday, April 6, followed by a one-day Farm & Agriculture Symposium for farmers and producers on Saturday, April 7. In addition, consumers navigated crowded aisles to learn about everything from hemp toilet paper to CBD, hemp’s wildly popular non-psychoactive cannabinoid. Standing-room-only crowds reacted enthusiastically to a diverse and comprehensive lineup of speakers – 25 percent more programming than the year before. For fun, Denver-based WillPower Products teamed up with Apollo Flight Labs to provide an exclusive Jet Pack demonstration.

“I was amazed at the buzz of the show,” said Arran Stephens, co-founder and co-CEO of Nature’s Path Foods and a keynote speaker at the event. “In some ways, it reminded me of the spirit of the early organic food trade shows. This is really the beginning of a strong new movement.”

The 6th Annual NoCo Hemp Expo will be held March 29-30, 2019 at a larger convention center in the Denver area. For information, visit www.NoCoHempExpo.com.

Presenting Sponsor PureHemp Technology Announced for Fifth Annual NoCo Hemp Expo

Loveland, CO (January 30, 2018) – The Fifth Annual NoCo Hemp Expo (NoCo5) announces Fort Lupton, CO-based PureHemp Technology as this year’s Presenting Sponsor for the two-day gathering of industrial hemp thought leaders, speakers, entrepreneurs, and exhibitors taking place April 6-7, 2018, at the Ranch Events Complex in Loveland, CO.

Featuring an expanded Hemp Summit, new Farm and Agricultural Symposium, a Global Hemp Village and two interactive exhibition halls, this year’s NoCo5 is set to be the largest on record. Recognized by the Hemp Industries Association as the “Hemp event of the year,” sponsors for this year’s event span across market leaders in production, manufacturing, and distributing of industrial hemp related products.

Nearly three-dozen states have passed legislation in recent years allowing research or commercial production of industrial hemp, the non-psychoactive cousin to marijuana. From hemp extract products now being sold online and in a growing number of natural products stores to food, fiber, cosmetics, textiles, paper, animal feed and construction materials and more, industrial hemp sales totaled $688 million in 2016, led by hemp food, body care and hemp extract rich in cannabinoid compounds, or “CBD” products.

PureHemp TechnoloyPureHemp Technology is this year’s NoCo5 presenting and leading sponsor that has been an innovator in the production, branding and marketing of industrial hemp products. PureHemp’s sister company, Pure Kind Botanicals, produces and markets a growing line of premium, full spectrum, cannabinoid-infused products for the wellness industry.

“We at PureHemp are proud and honored to represent the entire hemp community at the Fifth Annual NoCo Hemp Expo,” says Ed Lehrburger, Founder and Executive Manager of PureHemp Technology and Pure Kind Botanicals. “All of us in the greater domestic hemp community can honestly say we are successfully growing the U.S. hemp industry.”

PureHemp Technology has been advancing a patented hemp refinery technology that rapidly converts hemp stalks into pulp, lignin, and sugars that can be used to manufacture thousands of unique hemp-based products. Based on years of R&D and favorable results, PureHemp has a rich history partnering with other companies and advancing unique hemp initiatives.

For example, PureHemp was approached last year by a Canadian company looking for a technology company capable of producing sugars from hemp stalks that can be fermented into a high-quality beer. In 2017, PureHemp successfully completed a Phase I proof-of-concept program and is currently engaged in a Phase II program to refine specific recipes for producing a high quality, 100% hemp beer product. Hemp and beer enthusiasts, stay tuned!

here is a valley in South Central Colorado, an ancient intercontinental seaway, where the uplifting of the Rocky Mountains has created a unique natural environment. Bordered to the west by the San Juan Mountains and to the east by the Sangre de Cristo Mountains, the San Luis Valley is the highland of an endorheic basin which supplies the headwaters and aquifers of the Rio Grande River.

Wild horses roam free over the low-lying “chico” greasewood bushes while a multitude of hawks soar above in the big sky. The high-altitude desert is home to a rugged lifestyle. This is where many self-sustaining people live.

This Saturday, November 5th, Adams State University, located in Alamosa, Colorado, will host the inaugural SLV Hemp Symposium on campus at the Student Union Building. This will be a conference to enlighten those interested in growing, processing, and producing industrial and nutritional hemp products. Colorado Hemp Company is bringing hemp education, economics, and environmental information to the San Luis Valley.

Panels of speakers will discuss the basics of the emerging hemp industry, the ABCs of industrial hemp farming, building a local and national brand, understanding cannabinoids from person to plant, hemp processing techniques, building construction tips, hot topics of hemp law, CDA regulations and the Colorado Certified Seed Program, and much more.

This mini-expo and discussion board will give attendees the opportunity to buy, sample, and learn about industrial hemp products like apparel, body-care, food, plastics, building materials, and extracts.

  • Hemp Harvest Party: A Celebration of the Season

Hemp Harvest Party: A Celebration of the Season

By: Thomas Ivory –  Colorado’s third harvest of regulated outdoor industrial hemp is soon complete, just like the dwindling hot days of summer. The cool autumn nights ask for much work still to be done, but time for celebrating the bounty of hard work and dedication is also appreciated.

We are lucky in Colorado to have grown as a community and industry in so many prosperous and innovative ways over the past few years. Our continued professionalism is more than setting an example for other States; it is creating aristocratic conversation for all States and governments to participate.

Let us not forget those less fortunate by continuing support for individual and State rights to grow industrial hemp and uphold the constitutions and the Bill of Rights.

To celebrate Colorado’s (and the whole country’s) 2016 outdoor industrial hemp harvest, Colorado Hemp Company and Colorado Hemp Project is hosting its third annual Hemp Harvest Party!

They are collecting pictures from the 2016 season, from planting to harvesting, to be displayed in a video released at the party.

The hemp harvest of 2014 in Sterling, Colorado, with Bill Billings and his daughter Dani, set the stage for the first CHC harvest party. This event was epic — right out on the farmland, hemp field swaying directly behind live musicians, skateboarders on a half-pipe, hemp vendors under shade, and in the middle of it all: a hemp maze.

Walnut Room in Denver brought the party to the city in 2015. Now, more of the State was represented with easier access to the countrywide celebration. CHC honored all industrial hemp participants by gathering photos of the second year’s outdoor hemp season and presenting a video at the party.

The capitol city was so good to the Hempsters last year that CoHempCo is excited to host again the third annual Hemp Harvest Party 2016 at the Globe Hall in Denver, Colorado, Friday, October 14th, from 8pm-close. This will be an intimate opportunity to network, listen to live music, watch a photo-video, and celebrate the progress of sustainable agriculture.

The Taylor Scott Band will be headlining the party featuring Dave Beegle. Check out the sound recently recorded in Old Town, Fort Collins, by RAYBURN MEDIA. Also taking the stage will be Rob Drabkin, and Colorado local Rob Trueblood (who has opened the event the past two years) will again grace the stage first.

General admission and sponsorship tickets are on sale now. Get them online HERE

Again, we are blessed in Colorado to have a conscientious community where we demand our statewide right to grow industrial hemp and practice sustainable agriculture. Lets celebrate together and show the rest of the country there are gifts and rewards from our communal efforts.

And please remember, for the industry to function properly, we need the whole country participating in progressive living. Contact State representatives; e-mail Senators, Congressmen, Lobbyist; sign petitions to let those in charge know: the people of America want healthier and happier lives. We want to grow industrial hemp.

We’re putting the final touches on launching registration for the 4th annual NoCo Hemp Expo and I thought it would be a good time to reflect back on what has transpired since the beginning of April.  For those of you that attended NoCo3, you know it was pretty epic, and some might say Pure-Hemp-Epicness! One thing it was for sure, was an excellent gathering of smart, passionate, forward-thinking individuals who are out there fighting the good fight. The movement is alive and we are now in the final days of hemp and cannabis prohibition.  How the chips fall over the coming months and years is not for certain, but what we can say for sure is that prohibition as we’ve come to know it, is almost finished. And it’s our job, all of ours, to finish it. If we end up with a president Trump, disregard any and all predictions I make within this article. Prohibition will be the least of our worries.

Since NoCo3, all things hemp have kicked into overdrive for farmers, processors, entrepreneurs, associations and ancillary businesses entering into this exciting industry. People and companies are committing serious time, energy, and capital into building business relationships and infrastructure to grow. We have been gathering at industry-specific functions locally and nationally, working together state by state to pass meaningful legislation, all the while pushing Washington DC to pay a little bit of attention to our industry. We’ve had missteps along the way, we’ve had little victories and big victories, DEA, FDA and USDA interference to varying degrees, and we have more work to do.

Speaking of industry gatherings, this summer kicked off with a slew of Hemp History Week events followed up in July with the Science of Industrial Hemp Conference in Denver and Hemp On The Slope in Collbran, CO. August gave us The NoCo Hemp Village at the Arise Music Festival with Ziggy Marley, Jurassic 5, Papadosio and 100 other acts at one of the top-conscious festivals anywhere. If you’ve attended Arise you know what I’m talking about, and if you haven’t, you need to attend. This last week from September 18-20, the 23rd Annual Hemp Industries Association Conference came to Westminster, CO and provided a truly exceptional forum for industry professionals to interact and do business. There was a nice blend of old school and new school hempsters participating in panels and presentations, exhibiting, networking, and having fun. The way it should be.

The Road to NoCo begins early October with the launch of sponsor and exhibitor registration.  We’re truly excited for NoCo4 which takes place again in Loveland at The Ranch Events complex on March 31-April 1, 2017.

Moving on, Friday October 14th we celebrate with the 3rd annual Hemp Harvest Party happening at Globe Hall in Denver. This is an industry focused networking party and concert, featuring great Colorado acts including the Taylor Scott Band with special guest Dave Beegle, Rob Drabkin and Rob Trueblood.  We pay homage to hemp farmers around the state and country for the work and progress they’ve done throughout the 2016 growing season.

Late October brings us to the 3rd Annual Colorado Hemp Symposium and Legislative Workshop on October 26th in Loveland.  This event is hosted by Congressman Jared Polis and more information can be found at Here.

In November we head on the road to Adams State University in Alamosa for the inaugural San Luis Valley (SLV) Hemp Symposium taking place on Saturday November 5th. This is a smaller trade show and conference that will feature 25-35 hemp companies with the educational LET’S TALK HEMP sessions going on throughout the day. Please contact us if you are interested in joining us. More information on this event can be found at www.slvhempsymposium.com.

That’s it for now. I hope to start blogging a little more frequently going forward and share information that seems to get lost along the way. Feel free to reach out to me at hemp@coloradohempcompany.com with any comments, thoughts, or blog topic suggestions.  Thanks for reading.

  • Introducing the NoCo Hemp Expo HempWall!

Introducing the NoCo Hemp Expo HempWall!

    By: Rachel Jackson

2016 has been a monumental year for hemp, and especially big for the NoCo Hemp Expo! As the largest, smartest hemp expo in the country, we want to connect our message with people in every way we can. That’s why this year the NoCo Hemp Expo is unveiling a brand new interactive social media platform, the Tweetwall!

Affectionately dubbed the HempWall, think of it as your interactive information stand. Throughout the Expo, we’ll be broadcasting the next big event, speaker, or panel happening up on screens all over the Expo!  So when you are looking for the next hempcentric activity, look no further than the HempWall! You’ll be totally connected to everything happening around you, so you’ll want to check back frequently to make sure you’re not missing a thing.

But that’s not the whole reason we’re doing this. This is the 3rd year of the NoCo Hemp Expo, and we never would have gotten here if not for the loving support of all our attendees and volunteers. Without you we never would have gotten to be the biggest, baddest hemp expo in the country, and this year we want the spotlight to be on you! So we want to see YOU while you’re sampling, cooking, painting, jamming or just having fun at the #nocohempexpo! And we’re doing that through the magic of our HempWall.

It’s pretty simple. Log in to your Twitter account, follow @NoCoHemp, and simply tag your photo, thought, or friends with the hashtag #nocohempexpo. It will automatically pop up on the HempWall, which is being projected up on screens all over the Expo! So when you snap a selfie with Ben Franklin, or find your new favorite hemp snack, put it on Twitter and hashtag #nocohempexpo, so everyone can see! Maybe you’ll even see someone you know.

Nowhere near a Hempwall screen? Check your pocket. The Tweetwall also works on your mobile phone, if you pull up the website on your smartphone you’ve got the #nocohempexpo right in your hand. Send the link to your friend who couldn’t make it, and they can watch the #nocohempexpo livestream in front of their eyes. It’s almost as much fun as being there (almost.)

You can check out the HempWall in action over at nocohempexpo.tweetwally.com. Get those Twittering fingers ready, and we can’t wait to see you April 1st and 2nd!

Another great reason to check out the wall? We’re also going to be livetweeting the event! Think of it like your interactive information stand, we’ll keep you updated on speakers, panelists, workshops and more! You’ll want to check back to the screens frequently so you don’t miss a thing, and really get the whole expo experience!

  • CBD Herbal Elixir Bar Featured at NoCo Hemp Expo

CBD Herbal Elixir Bar Featured at NoCo Hemp Expo

On April 1st-2nd at the NoCo Hemp Expo, The Apothecary will be featuring their Herbal Synergy Elixir Bar, but this weekend they are focusing on hemp. They will be serving herbal-infused probiotic drinks all weekend in addition to their other products. On Friday night, The Spagyric Apothecary will have eight different herbal infusions, four of which will have 15-20 mg CBD to sample during the National Hemp Association’s Networking Event. This will be a time to try out a blend and see how it makes you feel, but most of all to see if it works for you.

They have worked hard on developing these blends to maximize effectiveness for all of hemp’s different uses as a dietary supplement. Since CBD works on so many areas of the body, they have combined it with other plants high in CBD-like chemicals, vitamins and antioxidants. In this way, they are focusing the cannabinoids in hemp to act on certain areas of the body. The synergy of fusing high-CBD hemp with different herbs creates something more powerful than any herb by itself.

Check out the Elixir Bar Menu below and be sure to stop by booth #73 during Friday or Saturday for a sample.

Sowing Seeds of Change: Hemp Makes an Impact at 2016 Expo

Individuals gather from around the globe to celebrate the hemp crop and its reentry into the U.S.
    Presented by CBDRx

Given the recent onslaught of hemp legislation passed throughout states like Virginia, New York, North Carolina, Oregon, and Hawaii, many are wondering: Just how many states will it take to overturn the long-awaited federal ban on growing industrial hemp and remove it from the controlled substances list?

Hemp is non-psychoactive cannabis, legal to grow in most every industrialized country, and the United States is the largest importer of raw-hemp and finished-hemp goods on planet Earth. Over half the country has passed legislation at the state level to legalize and grow hemp and more are proposing to amend laws regarding hemp today.

Our farmers, communities, and citizens are still being denied access to the most beneficial, multifunctional, nutritional, industrial, environmental, agricultural crop in human history.

During the LET’S TALK HEMP segment at the NoCo Hemp Expo, you’ll hear from field workers, international experts and U.S. representatives on numerous hot-button topics.

The “TED-Talk”- style event showcases an incredible lineup of knowledgeable panelists and speakers specializing in varying subjects of the industry who are eager to share their insight and experience for this remarkable and historic plant.

With over 70 participants presenting on the pivotal issue of hemp, Let’s Talk Hemp features conversations on policy, products, science and genetics, seed breeding and acquisition, new technologies and innovation, and challenges surrounding the industry today.

Keynote addresses include Founding Father Ben Franklin, author and industry expert Doug Fine, and United States House of Representatives Colorado congressman Jared Polis. Additional featured speakers include Alan Dronkers from HempFlax UK, Adam Dunn from HoodLamb, Anndrea Hermann from Hemp Technologies, Richard Rose the HempNut, Eric Steenstra from the Hemp Industries Association, Shaun Crew from Hemp Oil Canada, and Ed Lehrburger from PureHemp Technology.

Visit the NoCo Hemp Expo website for complete information and to reserve early bird tickets for Saturday only General Admission, 2 day Industry/B2B passes, and the VIP Hemp Investment Summit package.  Ticket prices go up on March 21st.

  • 30 Days ‘til Showtime

    30 Days ‘til Showtime

    by Morris Beegle
Hello my fellow Hempsters, advocates, friends and peers. I am writing this right after our 18-person Team NoCo meeting from Expo Headquarters in Loveland. We are fervently working in all areas to present a hemp-centric experience like nothing you’ve seen before. For those of you who were with us last year, that was a small taste of what NoCo3 and the 2016 Expo and Conference will be like this go around.

As of today, March 2nd, #NoCoHempExpo is 30 Days ‘til show time, and we have assembled nearly double the sponsor, exhibitor and donor participants from 2015. This reflects the hard work and growth of the young hemp industry:  All of our dreams about the future economy and society have a real chance of coming true. Attendees will learn about hemp’s possibilities new and old, from farming to tomorrow’s energy.

In addition to the fantastic companies who have jumped on board to make this a one of a kind showcase of industrial and nutritional hemp products and services, NoCo3 features an astonishing lineup of speakers, panelists, and educators gearing up for an exciting two days of insight, conversation, and engaging learning opportunities. We will be introducing the LET’S TALK HEMP Stage and HempTomorrow Stage, along with our Hemp Biz Journal Panel Room where we are launching the first-ever Hemp Summit. Yes, this is the first investment summit solely focused on industrial hemp. Moving forward, our goal is to continue to provide these amazing opportunities year round to companies deserving of funding and capital.

2016 is the year to step it up a notch, collaborate, unify, and put an end to the outdated, unfounded, regressive stereotypes that surround industrial hemp. The time is now to join forces and make a stand.

Today we are pleased to announce our 100+ exhibitors along with a partial list of our speakers and presenters. As we finalize the panels and specific topics over the next two weeks, we will reveal the full programming schedule which consists of global experts and thought leaders who will discussing everything from farming, equipment, processing, seeds, breeding, genetics, science, innovation, legislation, insurance, banking, infrastructure, economies of scale, product development, delivery channels, the future of hemp, and so much more.

I am extremely grateful for the talented and dedicated team that has come together for this year’s expo. Lizzy Knight, Hunter Buffington, Chris Wogan, Preston Whitfield, Dave Smith, Lori Buderus, Kristen Kunau, Rachel Jackson, Abbie Marks, Ben Wright, Doug Fine, Tim Gordon, Sean Murphy, Zev Paiss, David Maddalena, Summer Star-Haeske, Debby West, Kevin Buecher, Brad Shannon, Jena McGarrahan, Tony Buderus, Alexa Vasquez, Thomas Ivory Jr., Kirstin Bohnert, Alyssa Erickson, Elliott Shope and the dozens of volunteers coming on board this month. Thank You!

Stay tuned for more from Team NoCo over the coming 30 days! Countdown is on!!!
